“Dead End Dugout,” the Root answers in a whisper. It doesn’t
mean much to Catherine, but it’s a named place, which might be
useful to Eve?

I make a move into the tunnels, expecting the others to follow
-- only to discover Catherine and Laine are a step ahead of me.
“Learn anything interesting?” I ask.

[hr]Dead End Dugout. I have no idea what that means, but I have
a feeling Eve might. This is her home, after all. She's likely
been all throughout these tunnels. The root has been useful, so
I reward it with just a bit of Glamour. "Thank you, my friend."
I whisper and stand[br][br]That's when I hear Eve approaching,
so I turn and smile at her. "My lady. The roots say your family
is in a place called Dead End Dugout." I explain. "Does that
mean anything to you?" I have to ask, because he means nothing
to me, and I'm curious.

like a root. A useful talent. "Dead End Dugout? That doesn't
sound promising," he says under his breath. Again, he waits with
Jenessa for marching orders.

“Oh, I know where that is. Easy peasy.”
I wave the group onward and lead them through the tunnels. It’s
a bit of a schlep, but without the shadows blocking our path
it’s a fairly uneventful journey. I navigate us through the
infinitely complex, interwoven, winding paths that criss-cross
and backtrack and twist and turn.
Eventually, though, we come to our final obstacle:
A giant crevasse in the ground. A rope bridge is supposed to be
suspended across it, but it looks like it was cut -- from this
side. Opposite the 30 foot wide pit that extends seemingly
endlessly in either direction, the rope bridge hangs limply
against the far wall.
“Well. This is a pain in the ass,” I mutter, turning back to the
group.
“Any ideas?”

She walked with Phoebus, holding his hand. She was less cold now
then she had been. The fact that there were no more shadows
help. But she was still taking the worlds longest, hottest bath
when she got home.
"How you can find your way in this place is amazing Eve." She
had been sure they had been going in circles for a little bit
but that was not true. She looked at the chasm and shook her
head sadly. "I don't. Not unless one of us can fly and is
skilled in bridge repair."

This is my time to shine. "As you said earlier, easy-peasy." I
start unwinding the paracord I have around my waist, make a loop
and hand it to Katherine. "Think you can get this around the
post holding the bridge over there?"
Once she has it, I pull it taut and loop around the post on our
side, then repeat a sentence I'm told I said nearly incessantly
when I was little. "Mama's gonna walk a high wire."

I quickly find my balance and walk across the paracord like it's
a sidewalk. Once on the other side, I gather up the rope bridge
and bring back the severed end, presenting it to Eve with a
flourish. I pull another, smaller length of paracord from my
belt loops and offer it as well. "This should make up the cut
bits so we can tie it back where it belongs."

words made sense to her, also like I thought. That's good. I
follow, sword ready, just in case. Luckily, we make it there
unmolested, but come to another trouble... The bridge is broken.
I was going to suggest trying to create a bridge with a Cantrip,
but Lanie steps up, and I hold my tongue.[br][br]I look where
she wants me to throw it. "I can but make the attempt." I say
and take the offered cord. I make a few test throws before
taking a breath, spinning it around, and sending it sailing
across the gap. It makes it's mark, but only just. Still, the
cord is where it needs to be. Then I step aside and let Lanie do
what she plans to do... Whatever that may be. Rogues are handy
to keep around.

He was about to say he hadn't an idea, but others spoke up with
an idea faster. He steps aside to make way, and when the job is
done he applauds. "That is a handy skill to have," he cheers.
When the bridge is ready, he lets Catherine go first, followed
by Eve, then he lead the other two ladies across.
"Now where, boss lady?" He says to Eve.

I tie up the bridge with the bits and bobs that Laine hands me,
and naturally we have Cathrine go first to test the weight
capacity. Turns out that Laine isn’t fucking around, and it
holds just fine.
We cross the bridge with nary a thought, and I start calling out
for my family:
“Joey? Daddy?”

Eve’s calls echo through the cave, and moments later the pitter
patter of running feet echoes back. Eve narrows her eyes and
readies her sword, but it’s meaningless: Two identical twin
girls come hurtling out of the blackness and tackle Eve to the
ground, sobbing.
“You found us!” says one.
“We were waiting!” says the other.
A veritable crowd of redheads emerges behind the twins, looking
battered and worn. It’s obvious they had engaged in fighting,
and some of them look downright exhausted even if unwounded.
