He takes a seat with Janessa, and as the introductions come to
him, he gives a radiant smile. "I'm Baron Phoebus ap Leanhaun. I
am a sorcerer skilled with Sovereign and Naming primarily." He
looked around at all of them. "I'm not much with a blade, or
even a gun, but I am very good with people. Might not be as
useful here, but I have confident my Arts will do."
He looked at Janessa then, with a soft smile.

She set down at the table with the other, sliding a crochet
backpack purse off her her back that looked like a dragon. She
set it in her lap folding her hands on top of it as she listened
to those around her.
"I am sorry to hear about your home, and your family Eve, and i
will help however i can. I am afraid i have no fighting ability
at all. I am more of a bookwork. My father is an occult
researcher, as well as a Fae. Dragonkin to be exact. I am kinain
and have some skill with Enchantment and Alchemy, as well as a
fair amount of occult knowledge myself. I can make simple
potions that would make someone a little stronger, or faster,
heal mirror wounds. Things like that."

“So we’ve got a sorcerer,” I point at myself, “A rogue,” I point
at Laine, “A spellsword,” I motion to Catherine, “A bard,” I
motion to the rockstar, “And an alchemist,” I say, finally
motioning to Jenessa.
“A frontal assault doesn’t seem to be in the cards, we’re mostly
okay in a fight but that’s not the forefront of the group’s
abilities. Which is fine: we can get into the Manor any number
of different ways. It’s built on top of a massive cave complex
that connects to every structure on the Ranch.”
“Janessa, we’ll need someone to sample the shadow-oil-stuff so
we can study it - I bet your alchemical skills will come in
handy there,” I suggest.
“And if we’re going in through the caverns, I’ll have to walk in
front to guide the rest of you through. They’re enchanted and
horribly easy to get lost in unless you’re born to my family.”
“Catherine, you’ll need to be up front with me. You’re good with
a shield and our best bet on smacking things.”
“Laine will probably need to help us get through a few of the
security measures, so she’ll be our ‘floater’ who kind of hangs
around in the shadows, ready to back us up however she can.”
Finally I motion to the boyfriend/girlfriend couple. “You two
are probably best to stick together, watch each other’s backs.
You can make up the back ranks. Catherine and I can make up the
front line, letting you work your Arts.”
I motion to everyone at the table at once, then, opening my
arms.
“Any questions or suggested alterations?”

[br][br]The mention of Sovereign and Naming puts me a little on
edge. Those Arts are what make the sidhe so truly terrifying to
many fae. They can strip you your freewill, and even yourself
entirely. I don't make assumptions though. Not all sidhe are
monsters, after all. Time will tell if this one is.[br][br]I
turn my attention to Lady Eve when she speaks. She describes us
in rpg terms, and that makes me smile a bit. Before being swept
into the labyrinth by the firchlis, I was an event organizer for
a larp in Denver. So much glamour created at those
events.[br][br]"You will have my shield, my lady." I say once
she's finished. Her plan is as sound a plan as I could come up
with.

Seems I'm not the only one who sees the commonalities with the
beginning of a D&D adventure. And we've actually somehow managed
to get a balanced group! I mean, we don't have a major healer,
but we can't have everything. My lips twitch in approximation of
a smirk at the "rogue" appellation.
When Eve suggests the marching order, I tilt my head
consideringly, then smile when Katherine tweaks a line. I can't
resist adding "And my sneaky feet."
I stop and blink. "You know, I got here by pretty much literally
falling through a plot hole. I should probably make sure I have
a way to get back if I need to. I'm guessing you all have the
means already, since, well, you're here."

He's not sure the flippancy is appropriate, but at least it's
amusing. He looked at Janessa. "Are you ready to go, then?" He
gave her hand a gentle squeeze then stood, holding a hand out
for her too. As everyone stood and checked themselves, he looked
at the others. "Does anyone beside me get video game vibes from
this whole thing?" He grins a bit.
As they line up, he takes his position, with Janessa.

The D&D reference was not lost on her and she smiled slightly.
When Eve mentioned taking samples she nodded. “I should be
able to do that. I have the tools with me to do it.”She
patted her bag.
She then looked to Catherine. “I also have a potion that
might help you. Would you rather be a bit stronger, or a bit
faster?”
When Lainie asked about how they got there she smiled a bit.
“There are portals that lead to different places. I am
from Chicago. One of the local chantries allows sorcerers and I
came through the portal there.”
When Phoebus stood she looked up at him and blinked slowly.
“Oh, are we leaving already? I thought we were still
planning, not that I can come up with a better idea then Eve
did.” Reaching out she took his hand and stood up.

[br][br]I smile at Jenessa. "I have strength plenty, so speed
will do nicely." I say. It's easy to tell I'm uncomfortable
around people. Even though I'm trying to fake that I'm
not..."Thank you, my lady." I add. It doesn't do to be
disrespectful to those offering any kind of aid, in my
experience.

She smiled and nodded. Opening her bag she looked through it, it
seemed to hold much more than it looked like it did. She pulled
out a small vial and offered it over to Catherine. Drink this
when you feel the need. it will only last a short time."
She smiled shyly when called ' my lady' " Please just Jenessa."
"I am as ready to go as i will ever be." She nodded to Eve.

With everything settled, I stand up and scoot past Catherine --
which involves me sliiiiiiding across her lap, because I’ve
apparently forgotten I can just ask her to move -- and head over
to the Portal Booth.
It takes a little help, because I don’t yet know how to teleport
other people, but the amusingly mysterious and sexily helpful
Lucien gets me squared away and before you know it we’re all
filing into the TARDIS-looking chamber. When we come out the
other side, we’re standing under a blistering noon sky in
Nevada. Everyone who’s enchanted still sees me as Red Riding
Hood, but to the others, I’m now dressed to kill like I was
partying at a casino.
Because… well, because I was. That’s where Catherine found me.
You wouldn’t think we were out in the desert, because the
greenery everywhere is amazing, here. The Ranch is built over
those caverns I mentioned earlier, and the caverns are filled
with little creeks and ponds both fresh and saltwater. That, and
a little bit of magic, the blessings of the spirits, and a lot
of hard work?
You’ve got yourself a veritable wildlife conservation effort
going on at the Solomon Ranch. Neat, huh?
I walk us a few minutes through the wooded plains. We’re being
watched by wolves -- they don’t like strangers, but they know
me. They’re keeping their distance, though. Something has them
all spooked. If people are paying attention maybe they catch a
glimpse of the wolves at the edges of the treeline, or hiding in
the tall grass, just keeping a safe distance.
Eventually I bring us to the Ranch House.
“This is where the mortal ranch-hands stay,” I say as we
approach. “They don’t know anything about the supernatural, so
mind your Escheats and your Veils.”
A feeling of unease washes over us all, and the smell of death
and decay wafts out of the building when I open the door,
spilling it’s rank stench out onto the porch.
“Great,” I say with definitive sarcasm on my voice. “That bodes
well.”

I nod to the others and we fall into formation: Catherine and I
go first. Then comes Jenessa and her Sidhe. It takes me a few
moments to dream up, but I hold out my hand and summon into it
the dreamstuff of Knighthood: Shining armor, a shield, a sword.
Not as heavy-duty as the stuff Catherine’s got on, but
definitely just as shiny.
We press into the building. It’s dark inside, the shadows cut
through only occasionally by the sunlight spilling in through
the windows, and there’s a crunch as Catherine and I step into
the broken glass.
I look down, then back up to Catherine, and nod up to the
ceiling lamp where the bulb has clearly shattered, still screwed
into the socket. Something really blew out the lights in here.
We’re just about to press deeper inward when a lurching,
shambling form causes a ruckus, moving toward the group.
I hold up my shield.
