She's content to sit back and stay out of the rest of the
dialogue with the wait staff. Maybe she'll forget about Gina and
wonder why Lena has two whole orders to herself. The idea is
subtly amusing. She glances at her erstwhile partner-in-crime.
"Yeah, well, hope you sleep in a kevlar vest, dollface," she
murmurs, allowing the sharp edge of a predator grin before they
return to business as usual.[BR][BR]"Hell, what a question. Been
a long time, so probably the Union's replaced everyone I've
killed and everything I blew up. Something really nasty happened
at McCarren, both sides of the Horizon, so who knows how that's
settled. Exes and oh's, people I ghosted and people who probably
still want me dead. And I don't really... remember who's who, so
that'll be fun. You're good with that 1911, yeah?" The answer is
rambling and delivered on a single breath. They do not look
winded afterwards, maybe even a little energized by
it.[BR][BR]She gives the Superstitionalist a nudge with her
elbow. "It's Topeka, Len. Time works differently here. Betcha we
just beat the breakfast rush." Wistful thinking, maybe.

The nudge is allowed, the shorter blonde looking up at Reggie
for a moment before nodding. "Perhaps." For all they knew
everyone who came here was a cop or a shift worker, and that
could easily mean that they had indeed already left for their
       daily work.
Lena lets silence fall now, sitting in the presence of the
former mirrorshade becoming less distracting or discomforting.
She does shift a little uncomfortably however, though its hands
that do it, moving to smooth down her clothes, before rapping
out a beat on the table for a few bars before stopping.
"Sorry, I'm so used to having my research, or at least my phone
with me." Even someone as skilled as Lena wasn't immune to the
conveniences of modern life and its myriad distractions that
were available at ones finger tips.
Shed settle finally and with a sigh manages to wait in relative
stillness for the food to come, when it does however, she is
quick to begin, reaching for hot sauce stationed on the table to
add to the omelette's palette. She hadn't expected the
homefries, but she tosses some ketchup out for them and snags up
       a piece of bacon.
"Is that our destination? The airport?" She inquires. "That will
be a...interesting location to work in."

Or maybe they hadn't gotten here yet. Whichever the case, Regina
watches Lena's drum performance with clear and obvious interest.
It's not like they've got anything better to do either, nor can
they exactly play around on their own phone - it's a tool, at
this point, and all the fun stuff has been disabled. Wifi, LTE.
Even Bluetooth, unless it needed to be activated for a task. No
service otherwise. Just a clunky pocket watch and maybe a
flashlight in a pinch. This functionality would still be
impressive a couple centuries ago.[BR][BR]"Didn't bother me
any." She supposes she's not a great conversationalist, or else
it wouldn't come to that. Which is a fine thing to admit,
everyone has their strengths. Hers used to be alcoholism, and
now, running from the reality cops. Plus ça change. With their
plates arriving, she goes for the juice first and foremost and
drinks it down in one smooth go. Setting the empty glass aside,
she takes up her fork and tests the texture of her
waffles.[BR][BR]"Might be we end up there. I don't think I had
anything to do with it, just depends on where the breadcrumbs
take us." More or less satisfied, she drizzles syrup and smashes
the severed square of cooked dough into it like a sponge. "Only
mentioned it 'cause it was the kinda nasty that leaves fallout,
and I don't know if anyone bothered to clean it up."

They each settle into their ways of eating, Lena with her
various condiments and Reggie with her...well, her violent
dissection of the waffle. Lena finishes off one piece of bacon
before moving to consider the omelette, cutting into it slowly
with her fork before scooping up the bisected piece.
"Fair enough, I ask only because so far, youve kept me in the
dark about what to expect." Lena was used to working in the
darkness, but that didnt mean she enjoyed it, especially after
doing all she'd done to obtain her freedom from that darkness.
"I suppose there may be alot to say on that subject however, and
I will allow it to sit...for now. I will not go into this
blindly however." She gets serious for a moment, looking
sidelong at her co-conspirator before returning to her food.
"This honestly is pretty good, I suppose a greasy spoon only
stays in business if it feeds a need." She shifts slightly,
looking at Reggie for a moment.
"Are you going to be in suits the whole way?"

Reggie eats like she's got someplace to be. For the most part,
she's not particularly messy but some syrup winds up on her chin
and she doesn't seem to notice. It glistens there tauntingly, a
thin smear, as she takes apart her bacon strips into shorter
segments and tosses each segment into her mouth one by
one.[BR][BR]The chewing goes on for some time but eventually
they do answer, "We're going to a club my dead ex used to
operate. I need you to go in and get something for me, that's
all. In and out. I can't show my face there." The why and the
what are conveniently left out, but it's candle-lit now and no
longer the dark, as far as Regina is concerned. A lot of the
finer details hurt to think about, in different
ways.[BR][BR]"Maybe they put in some extra love for us. Or the
cook in the back thinks yer hot and doesn't know you're
incredibly taken by a dangerous rogue MIB agent." The flirting
again. Nerves. Defusing, dissembling. "Am I in a suit right
now?" They look down. Leather jacket, tank top, black jeans, Doc
Martens (Well, they might wear the Docs with the gorilla suit
too). "Dunno, I might change it up if it's useful, flash a badge
to get in somewhere. I'll tell the guards you're Linda Yaccarino
and they won't ask any questions."

Lena pauses and looks at the other woman once more and closed
her eyes, rubbing the bridge of her nose for a second.
"Apologies, you are clearly not wearing a suit." She sighed as
she looked back to her food and swore under her breath.
The flirting draws another raised brow from the woman. "Or maybe
the waitress saw you and thought goodness, I'd love for them to
fuck me senseless in the back." Lena looks up, seemingly
considering the image before shrugging her shoulders with a
"huh." The tone almost musical as she returned to devouring the
       rest of her omelette.
"Thank you, for sharing that with me." She says after a few more
bites of her food, turning her gaze towards the other woman
briefly. "Having any idea at all is better than none." She'd let
that sit now, her question answered. Perhaps she didn't have all
the details, but she had no desire to press Gina on it just yet.
It didnt take them long to both devour their respective meals,
and where Reggie had chosen to finish her juice off first, Lena
saved it for last, choosing to sip it slowly as she settled
down. With her free hand she'd fish into her pocket and pull out
a few bills, clearly checking the quantity before placing it
with one end under a plate.
"So...shower, and sleep?" She inquired. "With that food in me
I'm ready to sleep like the dead."

Regina stares, mouth agape, not having expected those words to
come out of Lena's mouth. They recover quickly, eyes flicking to
their plate. "Maybe it's both, we could go back there and make
it a party." They let out a singular puff of laughter. "That's.
I think that's what I was like. This wouldn't be jokes to me ten
years ago." There's some small amount of lamentation there, but
is it because they miss it or because they regret
it?[BR][BR]Finishing up, she slides out and onto her feet,
fishing out a fresh cigarette from her pocket for the 'road'.
"You're not a tool, to me. Or an asset. I came to you for help
and you're helping me. That's my perspective anyway." They
shoulder their way out of the door and hold it for Lena once
more, pinning it open while they light up their
smoke.[BR][BR]"You can go first, just don't use up all the hot
water. I'll be in and out so you won't be cold for long." The
winning strategy, in her mind. Give the gal a taste of what it's
like to be without and then swoop in to save her from it- wait,
that's the old her too, isn't it? A disturbing
thought.[BR][BR]Things are already shaking loose and they've
barely started. Two more days of this to go.

Oh if Lena could read minds. Well, in reality she could, in
truth she probably could have put a read on Reggie a while ago,
likely gleaned most of this by simply reading over the woman's
mind like a sleeper peruses a magazine. That however, was not
the Lena of today, perhaps it would have been her, if she had
remained in the halls of the Technocracy.
That however had not come to pass, and the Orphan did not do
such things for the most part. She slowly extricated herself
from the table as well, musing on the hot water situation.
"Perhaps I'll be merciful, I suppose you earned that given all
the driving you did." Its more in line with Lena's usual tease,
that said it had amused her greatly to see Reggie skip a beat
when she spoke about her and the waitress.
"I am human after all, did you really think I wasn't capable of
playing the vulgarity?" She asks with a smile. "My mind is as
flexible as my body." She chuckles a little as they head for the
door, the staff offered a wave and a thank you as they proceeded
out into the early morning of Topeka.
The streets were getting a little busier now, and as they head
for the edge of the parking lot the first few cars start to turn
       in...just missed the morning rush.
"Good to know where you place our partnership." She said as she
snapped her fingers a couple of times as she walked along, a
yawn escaping her mouth. "We are going to have to trust each
other, especially if we want to get anything done."

"I don't even know if motel plumbing works like that," they
admit. "Seems like the water's either hot enough or it's not
based on some arbitrary metric." They keep Lena to their right,
which leaves a good range of motion for their left hand. The
left hand that keeps edging toward the small of their back every
time someone gets too close, now that there's more life out here
in Kansas now.[BR][BR]She side-eyes Lena. "The more we get to
know each other the more I understand that I have absolutely no
idea what you're capable of." When they reach the steps again,
she's the one that goes up first this time, taking them two at a
time as she fishes her phone out. "That's not a bad thing. 'I
never wish to be easily defined'." She sniffs. "I do trust you.
I dragged you into this, I owe you that much."[BR][BR]They pop
the lock on the door and reach behind their back, sliding the
thin, double-edged knife free as they all but burst into the
room, keeping the blade screened with their body. If they had,
hypothetically, had anyone inside sniffing around the room while
they were gone, well... One might guess what the plan was there.
But there's no one, so they place the knife by the television

       leather jacket. "

"I'm a decent shot at the least though i might not be
particularly impressive in the physical realms, but my strengths
lay up here." She taps the side of her head, giving the
erstwhile mirrorshades at least an inkling of what she was
       capable of.
They arrive back at the motel, and Lena watches as Reggie pretty
near collapses on the edge of the bed, and begins peeling away
the layers. Lena does the same, quickly divesting herself of the
olive drab jacket and hanging it on the coat hanger. The shoes
are next, thankfully they had been comfortable running shoes,
which may not be the greatest for appearances certainly helped
when one was literally on the run. The shoulder rig came last,
the leather rigging itself being put with the jacket, while she
lay the gun itself and its accompanying holster on the bedside
table, clearly on the side she'd picked.
"I'll be quick." The blonde offers as she grabs her duffle and
starts for the bathroom, her hands already unbuttoning the now
frumpy red blouse she had been wearing for the last nearly
twenty four hours, its surface now looking rumpled and worn.
To her credit, Lena is quick, she's in there for maybe ten
minutes at most, and when she returns shes dressed in a pair of
black flowy shorts and a loose fitting tank top, that in this
case was also black. Her hair was slicked back now, and she was
scrunching it into a towel she had brought with her in an
       attempt to dry it.
"All your's." she offers as she moves to sit on the end of the
bed as well, still working away at her hair.
