Agent MAWKISH attempts to put Lena at ease, attempting in her
way to lay things on the table, to let the Orphan know that she
wasn't about to be black bagged and hauled off to whatever
nearby location operated as a Construct, or to wherever they
dumped the corpses of those who defied them. If Regina had hoped
that might put the woman more at ease, it doesnt seem to do very
much as Lena pulled herself from the car and started towards the
       diner.
"And why precisely, did you decide to track me down Regina?" It
was the obvious question, but Lena felt compelled to inquire
anyways, if for whatever reason they had decided that Lena was
worth a soft pitch re-recruitment that likely meant they had
additional forces nearby...but if they were there, the Orphan
       could sense nothing of them.
She reached the door then, pulling it open to seek shelter
within from the winter gale that buffeted them.

They don't seem compelled to follow immediately, instead
lighting up their new cigarette and checking out the car.
"There's a certain stereotype about women who drive a Subaru.
Did you know that?" Her tone marks that question out as
rhetorical, and after a smoky exhale they step away from the
vehicle. The cancer stick gets stubbed out in a big cement
ashtray, mostly intact, a prize for some lucky
sniper.[BR][BR]"I've got an off-books job I need help with,"
they admit, slipping through the opened portal with a little
duck of their head in acknowledgement. "RD help. And you know
the trade, at least a little, so that's a bonus." She leads the
way to a booth, slipping into the far side and perching with a
good view of the front door, a solid wall to their side rather
than full-length windows.[BR][BR]"But I'm not asking for you to
       work for free here."

       [hr]
The blonde haired woman chooses to hold her tongue it seems as
they make their way from the entrance to the booth, the olive
drab coat unbuttoned as she moved to slip down onto the old worn
leather bench, the material creaking ever so softly beneath her
       weight.
Part of Lena is screaming, screaming to run or kill or at the
very least subdue the woman before her, but she knew very little
of this woman's capabilities, she knew even less about what her
back up was like. No for the moment a different part of the
Orphans mind held sway, one that was far more used to these
waters, and the lingo that floated through it.
"Lets assume I know the first thing about what you're talking
about." She said as she eyed any wait staff that might come
their way, preparing to shift topic or fall silent should they
angle their way, something that had yet to happen.
"What precisely would I be getting out of this? More
importantly, what precisely is this RD you're referring too?"
It's in this moment that the waitress, a younger woman with an
undercut that is very early 90's (the styles back you see)
strolls up and looks between them.
"As for the Subaru and a woman who drives one I assume the
stereotype is that of someone who likes a reliable vehicle."
Lena smoothly switched gears as she turned to look to the
       younger woman.
"Coffee?" The waitress would ask as she lay a pair of paper
menu's that have been laminated down on the table infront of
       either of them.
"Coffee would be lovely thank you." Lena said with a nod. "But
       take you're time."

Regina watches Lena closely as she sits down, not with the
narrowed eyes of scrutiny but with the wide look of empathy. A
touch of concern. They reach up and loosen their tie. "Well, it
wasn't easy to find you, but I did take a certain road to get
here," she finally says, with a miniscule tilt of her head.
"That means the road exists for others too. Do me a solid and
I'll burn it all to ash." They turn so that they're tucked into
a corner diagonally, 45 degrees on the bench, one foot up so she
can wrap an arm around her knee.[BR][BR]Lena's guess as to the
nature of the stereotype forces a snicker out of her visitor.
The tip of their tongue pokes from between their teeth as they
try to stifle it. Cloaking only goes so far, loud noises would
draw attention and break the effect. "Yeeeah, that's right." She
winks, then turns to watch the waitress approach, hunching
shoulders and making herself smaller to escape too much
attention. At least she gets a menu, too. "I'll take a coffee,
too. And a slice of apple pie."[BR][BR]A fixed grin falls away
when the service departs, and they look back to Lena. "Your
anxiety's contagious. Look, would it make you feel better if I
let you hold onto my gun?"

The waitress nods and moves away, leaving the two women to
consider each other once more, alone in this moment.
Regina offers Lena her gun, and those watery blue eyes fix on
the woman who hunkered down in the corner of booth, seemingly
trying to remain unnoticed, or as little noticed as possible.
The blonde could feel it, that push, that directive to look
away, to see nothing in this space, to pay no attention to the
woman in the suit. A ghost by every measure.
"You misconstrue displeasure for anxiety Regina." She said
holding the other woman's gaze. "I imagine it is a subtlety that
can often go amiss...in your line of work." She leaned forward.
"Tell me, if our places were reversed would you really feel more
comfortable being offered the gun?" She said as her head slowly
tilting, as if the woman was inspecting a particularly curious
       specimen.
"So, entrapment then is it?" She offered as her hand slid across
the table top, as if to dust away crumbs or detritus that
clearly wasn't there. "You offer to leave me in peace, and yet
when we finish this job, oh...look I need just one more favour,
and then were square." Lena shook her head.
"Why should I believe anything you say or offer?"

Dark eyebrows arch at the correction. "Oh, have I displeased
you?" They take a breath when the question of the gun is turned
back around, then let out a soft chuckle. "Not even a little,
but it was worth a shot." She shrinks in on herself a little
more, displaying defeat. Submission. Like before, signalling
that Lena is in control here.[BR][BR]"Entrapment? Jesus Christ,"
they mutter, barely audible under their breath. A little louder:
"If I sent you an invitation you would've, at best, ignored it.
At worst you'd rabbit. This is about bringing you to the table,
not putting you in a corner." She pinches the bridge of her nose
and leans her head back against the wall, eyes shut, throat
exposed.[BR][BR]"About fifteen years ago, give or take, two
traddies were murdered by a former colleague with the handle
'Reckless'. A member of their cabal took this pretty badly, and
started killing her way to the truth, which was that 'Reckless'
wasn't really a mage anymore, but some kind of monster of
technology. Cooked up as part of a joint venture between the
Syndicate and a multinational conglomerate called Pentex." They
pause, dark eyes dropping to Lena, to see if she's got any
questions, if she's even listening, or if she's standing up to
       leave the diner entirely.

Even if she should have left, or at least made an effort to
leave, Lena remains in the booth, her gaze fixed upon Regina as
she explains her situation. Perhaps it was the therapist in her,
or something darker that keeps her there, appraising, assessing
       but ultimately listening."
"This situation displeases me, as I imagine it would displease
anyone who had their evening interrupted in this fashion. Infact
if you are seeking legitimate aid from someone like me, in this
scenario perhaps you might consider why I might not be pleased
to see you at all." She said with a tilt of her head as if she
might say more on the subject but instead she lets out a sigh
before tilting her head back ever so slightly and shaking her
head as if to shift her hair about her shoulders.
"Well go on, you've started your story, you might as well finish
it in its entirety before I say or do anything else." She
settled back then, the unbuttoned jacket slid off to crumple
around her waist revealing a dark red professional looking

It seemed she was here...at least for the moment.

by that realization, jaw tensing as they grind their teeth and

My current employers tried to help this girl, bring her in on

up the construct, she'd already torn up the data trail and the
whole project got written off. But the people who'd signed off
on it in the first place were still out there."[BR][BR]They look
more anxious now, eyes mostly downcast at the table, like a
scolded dog. Occasionally they peak up at Lena, but never for
very long. "She wound up giving herself up, in the hopes of
getting access, using our resources. And, of course, we..." They
snap, and tap-a-tap-tap on the table with both index fingers in

Lena continues to listen to the tale of woe, taking in the
details and more importantly looking for the holes in the story.
Part of her hates that shes slipping back into this mode, into
this frame of mind, but this was apart of who she was, she could
       not deny or ignore it.
Its about midway through the story that the waitress comes back,
plate of pie and two coffee's balanced expertly in her hands,
all of which was deposited. Lena turned from the story only
briefly to nod. "Thanks, if its alright I'll flag you down if we
need anything else." She offered the waitress a professional
smile, one that clearly had worked for her many times over as
the young woman nodded and went about her business, not paid
       enough to care more.
This done Lena turned her gaze back to Regina, her hand absently
picking up a pair of cream packets and opening them one at a
time, emptying them into her coffee.
"I see." Is all she offers at first, her eyes lingering on the
table for several long seconds before sliding back up Regina's
form and locking gaze with her. "Two questions." She said as she
picked up the spoon from her saucer and began to slowly stir her
coffee, blending the creamer in with the inky black liquid.
"Firstly, what is your intention for these back ups? Secondly,
what is all of this to you? Is this simply an assignment? Or is
there more to your involvement in this scenario?"
