Hi Helen
Apart from the RSPCA is there anywhere else in notts that do

charge ott consaltation fees which eats up the voucher 'I have

The RSPCA are the only ones that help anyone, councils are for
those on benefits and there is also the PDSA. There was a vet
offering half price neutering in Feb but I am not aware of any
other offers now and Dogs Trust are only helping in specific
areas. It's cats that there is more help with, so sorry if
you've learned nothing new. That's not good news about the
councils though, the vets don't appear to be playing fair.

well i don't think it's fair i could get a voucher for a 1/3 off
the price for my boy which would cost me about £95 'but would
need a consaltation which is an extra £29 but because my little
pup only has one ball dropped that could add another £90 and a
bigger fee to see where it is 'even though i know where it is
because i can feel it in his groin 'they only let you choose
from 3 vets which are the most expensive in notts and the
voucher is for £30 hummmm not saving much really am i 'Think i
will go with the RSPCA 'but they tell you which vets you can use
now too and i want to use my own vet :(

I was unaware of the councils "help" being hardly worth it, so
thanks, I will look into it. PUP do have an emergency fund for
staffies and cats but owners have to be on a low income to
qualify. If there were more volunteers in Notts other than just
me, then we would be able to help out more, but right now
advertising and pointing people in the right direction is all I
can manage. Hope it works out.

in our area the RSPCA neuter free of charge regardless of income
any "status" type dog, eg: staffie, JRTs, Rotties and all
crosses etc. All cats and neutered free of charge too but you
need to show some form of benefit for this eg: working family
tax credit, income support etc. It is the local foster workers
that organise this and not the main branches so therefore I do
not know how they do it but they will also take and collect the
animals for you.

Thanks for that info Tilly. It's a pity that there isn't the
same help offered across the country then we would all know
where we stand. Staffies and other "status" dogs cost the same
to neuter in Notts as any other dog, but when they are the dogs
that are being massively over-bred you would think there would
be lots of incentives to get them done? All this "help" to
neuter from charities but we still have a huge issue with
thousands being PTS. Been trying to find out how many it is, it
is hard to pin point but it's somewhere between 11,000
dogs-50,000 every year. And even more cats. Shameful.

I think its a terrible waste of charitable funds.
Those that have status dogs won't have them neutered anyway
regardless of cost.
Those of us that choose to have pets are ultimately responsible
for their vet costs, especially when owners have more than one.
I believe the only people that should get help are those
homeless people who have no-one in their lives except their
animal who lives amoungst the cardboard cities are their owners
do and pensioners who's only income is state benefit.
Sorry but for me, saying its unfair is totally unreasonable,
having a pet is a choice!

Totally agree that owners should be responsible for the pets
they take on. But sadly this is not the world we live in.
In order to save the lives of unwanted pets-being born only to
die, it has become necessary to intervene and create incentives
to get those who would not otherwise bother to neuter. How much
worse would it be if charities did not help?
