We can share our projects for this summer and update on progress
and changes of plan

What are your writing plans for this summer? I thought that
sharing them on here (especially in the absence of -- or
otherwise in between -- physical meetups) might allow for good
sharing and group motivation, and space to continue our
in-person conversations, or even update on the work we've
previously had critiqued.
As an example, I've start a short story, which at the moment
largely features some young people hanging around in a park.
:-\ I have been trying to hawk a bunch of five poems around,
but yet to have any takers. I'm slightly anxious about the
general opposition to rhyme in the current poetry world, as I
find it impossible to write without rhyming. Will keep trying,
though.

Not doing much. Would like to polish off a couple of short
stories and try to publish them. But every time I do a journal
search online, I get flustered by the sheer number and variety
of publications and give up. So I've never even submitted
anything. Perhaps we should have a group discussion some time on
how to optimise the process of identifying appropriate lit
mags.
And I need to get back to my novel, or just give up on it for
good. Decided I had to rewrite it from scratch but didn't get
beyond that decision.

Yeah, I would find it really useful to discuss how to identify
places to submit and the general process!

And I'm in a similar place with my novel. I've made the
'difficult' decision to take a year off thinking about it. Then
it's whether I attempt another rework or just try to learn the
lessons for next time.

My current plan is to focus on writing short stories quickly,
with a goal to finish pieces I can go back to and begin
rewriting or polishing later. My biggest problem is getting so
caught up in starting over/rewriting that I never finish
anything. I also considered (am considering?) doing this with
novel in progress, but at the moment it feels too daunting and
I'm afraid of "ruining" what I've got. :-\

I'm going in the opposite direction than the rest of you:
decided to take a couple of unfinished stories that aren't quite
working as stories and turn them into the beginnings of a
novel... Still in the fun first-timers ideas-and-scribbling
stage, so my ambitious goal for the summer is to write enough
words to arrive at the despairing what-is-this-mess stage ;)

Do you guys do much planning before starting a short story? I
normally have a couple of linked ideas then launch in and see,
but wonder if it means I don't have a very well defined vision
of the piece. I'm quite good at satisfying myself that something
is finished. But that never lasts!
