We are going to face these challenges and I have been actively
discussing with our Interventional Pulmonology (IP) team and ENT
surgeons
A. COVID patients
- ENT society most recently in their townhall meeting has taken
a stand that will not do trachs till COVID testing x 2 negative
- IP team is planning to use that same approach as well
Hopefully as the turn around time for test improves
Also till patients are COVID negative they may not be accepted
in LTACH
B. Non COVID patients
- may need to consider early Trach to free up ICU beds if ICU is
overwhelmed
Especially for neuro patients - SAH, CVA etc
What are your thoughts ?
Any specific guidelines ?
