       garage sale

Today my daughter Lora was having a garage sale to benefit the
Northwest Boxer Rescue, so everything was donated. She called me
to come over she had found a sissix machine with the whole
alphabet die cuts and a circle cutter and a doll with cloths. I
       bought it for $5..
Now can I only use sissix dies with this one??

I'm pretty sure you can use different brands of dies, as you can
with other brand cutting machines. I know you can with the
       Cuttlebug.

       Original Sizzix
The original Sizzix machine can cut and emboss material. The
Sizzix is compatible with the following die cut:, Spellbinders
Wizard, Spellbinders Texture Plates, Brass Stencils, Zip e cut
dies, Zip e slim dies, all Quickutz dies, all Cuttlebug dies and
embossing folders, all Bosskut dies, Sizzix original dies,
Sizzix Sizzlits, Sizzix Clearlits, Sizzix Embosslits, Sizzix
Decorative Strips, Sizzix Alphabars, and Sizzix Simple
       Impressions.
       Big Shot/BIGkick
The Big Shot and BIGkick machines can emboss and cut material
and has a wider opening than the original Sizzix to allow the
user the ability to use bigger dies. The Big Shot and BIGkick
are compatible with the following die cuts: all Spellbinders
dies, Brass Stencils, all Zip e cut dies, all Quickutz dies, all
Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders, Fiskars texture Plates,
all Bosskut dies and all Sizzix dies.
       Side Kick
The Side Kick machine is a compact cutting and embossing
machine. The Side Kick is compatible with, Zip e cut dies
       2-inches-by-2-inches or smaller, Bosskut dies
       2-inches-by-2-inches or smaller, Quickutz dies
2-inches-by-2-inches or smaller, Cuttlebug dies, Cuttlebug
embossing folders, Sizzix Simple Impressions, Sizzix Sizzlits,
Sizzix Clearlits, Sizzix Embosslits and Sizzix Decorative
       Strips.
       Using the Dies
The Sizzix machines use a sandwich made up of dies and spacer
plates to reach the thickness needed for the machine to apply
enough pressure. With the original Sizzix and Side Kick, stack
your die on top of Sizzix adapter pads to reach the thickness of
an original Sizzix die cut pad. With the Big Shot and BIGkick,
use additional spacer plates to reach the thickness needed for
the sandwich to fit tightly into the machine

       Hi Jeana,
You can use thin dies, but they are limited in width.
What you need is the adapter, this is a piece that magnetically
attaches to the underneath of the pressing down bit.

Lots of useful information Jax. I have the old big red sissix
and quite a lot of dies, but rarely usethem. I keep thinking
about buying something I can emboss with, but maybe if I bought
the converter and embossing plates is that right Nette?

       Hi Joan.
Yes, you can emboss with the sizzix, but you are limited in the
width, so be careful of that when buying folders.
You can also emboss with your sizzix dies. It takes a bit of
trial and error but can be done.
You need a silicone embossing sheet, cut to fit the width of the
sizzix, leave as long as possible, extra length is fine.
Place the silicone sheet, paper then die on the cutting plate
and put under the pressing bit. Lower the lever until you feel
resistance, then bounce it a bit. Not tooo hard as this will cut
through the paper, this is were the trial and error comes in,
but once you have done it a few times, you will get the feel of
       it - literally!!!
This should give you an embossed card not a cut out one.

I have an old red sizzix from almost the time they were put on
the market, and loads of dies as I was buying them wholesale. I
       used this for years.
I finally gave in and switched to a bigshot just before the
       bigshot pro was introduced.
Then after having the bigshot for a few years, my partner in a
moment of inspiration decided to buy me another machine...... He
found a red sizzix in a charity shop for £1.50 and decided I had
       to have it. Duh????????????????????????????????
I would offer to give it away if anyone was interested, but they
are so heavy that the postage would be uneconomical, it would
cost more than the machine is worth!
Now, I still use the big shot, but I am in total love with my
cameo. Sadly I just don't get to use it enough, I spend too much
time at work and trying to get some sleep!

Thanks Nette, I must check out where I can get the silicone
       from.
