Question re selling cross stitch items
By: KnyttWytch Date: June 14, 2014, 11:19 am

a friend wants to sell completed small cross stitch items
through ebay/etsy type thing, she has found a few patterns in
cross stitch magazine and it states "you can sell copies but not
mass production", she wonders what would class as mass
       production!

LOL. That sounds like the proverbial "how long is a piece of
       string"!!
If she can, your friend needs to track down the designers and
       ask them for specific numbers.
I would think that if she limits herself to just two or three of
a design at any one time, that would probably be ok, then leave
it for a while before selling that design again.
If you were to put the pattern in a photocopier and hit 100, I
think that would definitely come under mass production:))))
There are lots of different licences out there and they are all
different. Most of the crafter's companion cds allow you to make
200 items from the cd, and sell them for personal gain, in a
year, you can make any number you like for personal use and for
       selling for charity.
The Serif licence for craft artist goes something like - you can
create a design and sell 100 copies of it (or the item made with
it??). If you make a small change to the design, this is a new
design so you can make 100 more.........

Thank you Nette! I suggested she contact the magazine but it
sounds as though she should be okay :D
