Origins of the Olympics - Ancient Greece?

I always thought that the Olympics originated in Greece, does
anyone know the story behind it? Greece doesn't seem like a
particularly sporty nation IMHO.

A quick Google on it: The Ancient Olympic Games were a religious
and athletic festival held every four years at the sanctuary of
Zeus in Olympia, Greece among representatives of several
city-states and kingdoms of Ancient Greece. According to legend,
it was Heracles who first called the Games "Olympic" and
established the custom of holding them every four years
Currently they're not as compared to the past, that's why their
economy is in such trouble. ;D

.. yeah.. Heracles was a mythical figure, half human, half God.
Just like Jesus. So I highly doubt he would have named the
Olympics.
