Not only Singapore ministers are the highest paid in the world,
the prize money Singapore offers to an Olympic gold medal winner
is probably also the highest at US$800,000 (S$1,000,000).
According to Reuters/BBC/Yahoo info, this is how much an Olympic
gold medalist will get from their respective countries:
(In USD)
Singapore – $800,000
Philippines – $340,000 (2008 figure)
Malaysia – $320,000
Thailand – $300,000 (2008 figure)
United Arab Emirates – $270,000
Kazakhstan – $250,000
Kyrgyzstan – $200,000
Italy – $180,000
Uzbekistan – $150,000
Russia – $135,000
Japan – $100,000
Bulgaria – $76,000 (2008 figure)
France – $65,000
Tajikistan – $63,000
US – $25,000
Australia – $21,000
UK – No money, but their face on a stamp
Do you think we still should feel pride when we win?

I would still feel proud if Singapore wins something in
Olympics. The monetary incentives is just a measure to motivate
the athlete and I do not think it should discount them of their
effort at the games.

Well, the Paraolympics is definitely less well-known and would
bring lesser prestige to the country. From this perspective, it
is unfair to say that Sg was unfair to pay lesser. Maybe, the
factors were not justified enough for the same amount of money
paid to an Olympics winner.
