he Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 pissed off Jimmy
Carter so much that he took the unprecedented step of ordering
all American athletes to boycott the upcoming Moscow Olympics,
and formally requested “all other free nations” to do the same.
He was criticized as using athletes as pawns. I thought this was
an interesting political move that J.C. made..
If I were one of the olympians, I would be really pissed off - 4
years of hard work gone because of some big boys' game.

Yes the athletes from certain countries comply. they were
unhappy because they felt that they were used as political
pawns. They've trained so hard 4 years!
