GW, just started using this board. It has a moderator who will
hopefully keep the political stuff down. Nice to see you old
buddy.
Matt Patricia was in New England when Niners quarterback Jimmy
Garoppolo was there, will he have an advantage when it comes to
scouting the 49ers young gun?
If anyone is expecting the lions to put heat on Garoppolo don't
hold your breath. That’s because the coach of the Lions simply
doesn’t put extra pressure on the quarterback. Matt Patricia is
surely bringing his defensive mindset to his new team. That
means a ton of bend but don’t break defensive schemes. It means
rushing four and dropping seven. It means giving up short passes
to force a team to string together 10 to 12 play drives. It does
not mean sacks. In my opinion the Lions do not have a strong
pass rusher on the team but that may not solve the 49ers
problems they have suffered in the red zone. We may see lots of
long drives that end in field goals Sunday

Looks like Goodwin is out for week 2. Now we get a chance to
see what Pettis can do with full snaps. I'm expecting the 49ers
to win, but something tells me Lions will bring their A game
after getting embarrassed on MNF. I don't see Stafford throwing
4 picks again, so niners D has got to play solid. I also think
JG will have a good bounce back game after throwing 3 INTs. I
would love to see WR James on the field, and see if he can
duplicate what he did during the preseason. Go niners!

What worries me is we're apparently starting Najee Toran at RG.
This guy literally couldn't get a hand on Solly Thomas in one on
ones in camp. Why he's even on the active roster? Because we
have no one better. Scary thought!
Josh Garnett went from "I'll be back out there. I'm a warrior!"
to ow ow ow ow, it hurts so bad, don't think so.
I figure Patricia's history with JG tells him he's facing a QB
who sees the entire field, does not panic, and can hit the third
or even fourth option on the move. Not sure what he's gonna do
with that information.

Another player who could get his first start (in what would be
his first NFL game) is undrafted rookie guard Najee Toran, who
was added to the roster this week from the practice squad. Toran
would get the nod at right guard in place of Mike Person, who is
questionable with a foot injury, and Joshua Garnett, who has
been ruled out with a toe injury. The decision on whether Toran
or Person will start depends on how Person feels on gameday, but
Shanahan says he has confidence in Toran based on what he saw
during the preseason.
"A lot of times you get undrafted free guys in and they don’t
jump off the screen right away to you," Shanahan said. "The
strongest and the most mentally tough are the ones who survive
throughout the end. He’s been thrown in a lot of situations
through the preseason, got to play a lot in the preseason. The
game doesn’t seem too big for him. He’s the same in those
preseason games as he was in practice and that’s why he’s a guy
I believe can handle starting if need be."
The third first-time starter would be Elijah Lee at Will
linebacker, who would get the nod in place of Malcolm Smith if
Smith is unable to play due to a lingering hamstring injury.
49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh expressed confidence
Thursday in Lee if he was needed to step into the starting
lineup.
“He’s ready to go," Saleh said of Lee Thursday, per 49ers.com.
"He’ll be getting some reps and we’ll see how it plays out for
Sunday, but we have all the faith in the world in Elijah to go
out and perform.”
Another situation to keep an eye on is that of safety Adrian
Colbert, who did not participate in practice on Wednesday and
Thursday. Here's a look at the full list of game designations
for the 49ers.

Reporter Keiana Martin: San Francisco scores a touchdown on its
opening drive:
Last week, the 49ers made four trips to the red zone with just
one resulting in a touchdown. The offense settled for field
goals on two of those drives with the other resulting in a
costly fumble on the goal line. The 49ers have scored just one
opening drive touchdown over their last 20 contests. The Lions
defense finished in the bottom five of the NFL against the pass
last season. I foresee San Francisco starting off hot against a
Lions defense that gave up four touchdowns versus the Jets
offense last week.
My comment; Even with some question marks on the offensive line
the Lion's defensive is not that great and we will score on them
in the red zone rather than kick field goals.

I mentioned on the other board that I was worried that the OLine
is not good enough, from what I saw in preseason and against the
Vikings I still hold that view. I am also disappointed that
Lynch has drafted some Redshirts, I thought he would have
learned the lesson about that especially as the roster is pretty
weak.

OK. Still figuring this board out, but it seems to be getting
some traction, which I think is good. Good to see GW2 after a
long dry spell and jimbo made it over. I think this is the most
I've seen Mr. Riley post in one streak in quite some time. I
still prefer the Motet board style, but I'll give this a go long
enough to figure out how the features work, how to link and post
tit pics, etc.
So the concerns about the OLine I think are valid but perhaps
overstated. One, our OLine downright sucked last year, and
while this year's line isn't going to blow anybody away, I don't
think they're going to be the liability that last year's line
was. On a relative basis, I think this year's group is an
improvement. We faced perhaps the toughest defense last week
that we'll face all year, lost two right guards, don't have a
legitimate running back, and still managed to come within a few
errors of winning the game. Even without our starting or backup
RGs, I expect a much better showing against Detroit.
My biggest concern about the team this year is my inability to
watch it. My ripple.io stream was great until the 4th quarter
when it died completely. I'm not going to spend my Sundays in a
sports bar and I'm not going to pay for DirecTV. Outside of the
concussion and politics issues, the NFL is shooting itself in
the foot by restricting access to games that people want to
watch. I would say that the market for out-of-area games
probably equals that for in-area games for most markets. If I
can't watch the Niners games, I'm not going to bother watching
the NFL unless is just happens to be on. I would gladly pay a
reasonable fee to watch just the Niner's games every week, but
as things stand now, the only way to get the games is to buy the
NFL ticket, which is bundled with DirecTV, which I have zero
interest in.
I thought that a SlingBox might be a solution, because my
brother lives in Sacramento and gets every game locally. Turns
out, however, that the current SlingBox offering is packed with
spam to the point that the stream is unwatchable. Other
streaming options are not available in my area or do not offer
out-of-area NFL games. Overall, I'm just very down on the NFL
right now, and I suspect I'm not the only one. It boggles the
mind that Roger Godell manages to not only keep his job, but to
get a raise.
