Invisibility

---------------------------------------------------------
I believe the Invisibility Spell should be changed to be more
balanced for the LARP setting.
My background is in big games (200+ players) that allowed
invisibility only very sparingly. (Person could not move, and
only people who belonged to a certain god (Master how this game
calls them) could do it.
The creators of that game (LIONE Rampant, an offshoot of NERO)
thought it destroyed RP as people tended to 'not' role play when
they knew someone was near by anyway so instead of trying to
chastise the players they looked at ways to avoid putting people
into the position to 'cheat'. Now their game was World Course
style with modules (similar to what Aldeon does with a bit more
NPC involvement) augmenting the game.
My thoughts:
I won't try to argue to 'immobilize' Invisibility as there are a
number of abilities that already do that in the game and with
blind fighting/Surprise/natural conceal it is already worked
into the game to some extend. I think instead a Duration should
be placed on the Spell of 10 minutes.
A ten minute duration gives it a fair bit of usefulness. (Look
at usefulness of some other 2 cp costing abilities and I think
you'll still see it as a bargain price).
Though Marti did a good job wandering around Invisible the last
event, unlimited duration Invisibility still opens up more doors
for abuse than it creates to enhance role play/fun in the game.
Side Note: I would be cool with Fey/Changelings having a racial
bonus with the spell (natural spell) that makes it active for 1
hour instead of only 10 minutes.

10 minutes seems like a pretty reasonable amount of time for the
mana cost. The 24 hour time limit is pretty ridiculous for what
all you can do with the spell especially when it's so cheap.
I'd advocate that for any other time limit above the 10 minutes
would require a balancing with a higher mana cost. I've been
told that the initial reason for the 24 hour time limit was so
that items could be rendered invisible for an extended amount of
time. If people still think that would be necessary then
perhaps we could have a longer time period if the spell was cast
solely on an unattended item.

If the time duration is going to be droped I really think that
their should be a split like Heath suggested. Invisability and
Greater Invisability. I always thought the 24 hour thing was
wonkey. The old spell only lasted an hour. What could be done is
make it more in line with the rest of the form spells like Water
Form, Spirit Form and the like. Make it a 9th level spell that
last for 1 hour.

Why not just return the spell to 1 hour?

I like a shorter duration invisibility personally, having people
walking around invisible all game is just annoying and wonky.
Balancing a party for the people + that 1 person nobody knows is
there, or people trying to have conversations with NPC's or
whomever while still remaining invisible.

For the current price I think 10 minutes is enough, though 1
hour is at least not 'forever'.

I personally agree for 10 min at current mana usage. If ita
changed to one hour then id raise it to 9mana

I think I may have found the only real problem currently with
invisibility: Player's have it.
Sure 24 hrs is a tad strong, but Invisibility is an italicized
spell and is powerful, as such, mages with it should hoard it
for all its worth. Changelings can buy it at anytime, but they
also have a list of mechanical and social disadvantages to go
along with it

Then by that logic Invisibility shouldn't be in the game. If by
definition it shouldn't be in players hands then it shouldn't be
in game accessible by players. I am fairly certain that right
now the only player with Invisibility would be myself and I
think maybe Lisa. No mage actively has it.
24 hours is really good for the mana cost and level it is. I can
admit this even as a Changeling player. That is why the
discussion is to either increase the cost or reduce the time
duration.

Unless Marti is playing a changeling, then she has the
invisibility spell.
