       Spell Incants and Shields

I've noticed that shields (chaos shield and death shield in
particular) do not always shield against the school that they're
offered in, while others, charm for instance, are from the same
       school.
Despite this, the incant 'create a shield' is noted in many
cases on character sheets rather than death shield or the
similar descriptive of the actual effect.
This seems confusing, and easily remedied. I propose setting a
universal wording for these incants that incorporates the name
of the shield in question, for example, 'create a death shield'.
       This would reduce confusion.
Potential drawback: This incorporates an additional word into
       the spell, slowing casting time.

I don't think its a big enough issue to worry about. The caster
should know what their spells do and if there is any confusion
the caster should explain. Only 4 shields don't effect their
own path. If enough people think its a problem, though, then it
       can change.

I have to agree with having a 'universal' concept behind spells
so that they are easy to understand for all players, not just
       the casters.
Golden Rule of Rules: Have as few as possible.
I have played in Nero, LIONE, IFGS and Enchanted Chronicles,
they are all games 'similar' to this one with complicated spell
systems. In all cases their second and third edition rules spent
time making their games easier to play by following consistent
       rules with their spells.
Having the 'effect' of the spell as the last words uttered
really does help. As a 'target' I may not notice the start of a
spell, but as I see the person wide up/look my way I may catch
the last bit, and if that last bit tells me what the spell does
I won't have to 'call a hold' in the middle of a combat.
I am not sure 'how big an issue' has to be before it is allowed
to be improved, it is true 'change' is hard on people, but
personally people who 'know the game' should find it easier to
adjust then a person who comes in and has to try to digest an
       entire rule book.
This weekend pointed out a number of things. The fact that some
of the highest level people in the game 'do not know' how their
powers work or what the book says is very telling. I'm not
belittling anyone because I am there with you with some of the
'powers' my class is supposed to have.
Every spell being 'unique' and having an incant that does not
follow a set patter increases complexity of the game. As an
archer who is allowed to retrieve arrows on every hold, it is
beneficial to me to have as many holds called as possible. I say
this because I WANT there to be have less need for Holds even
though it directly makes my characters life harder.
       Basic Fix to be considered:
       Current Description:
       Life Shield Indefinite 5 Mana
By the Dark Grip of Death, I Create a Shield.
This spell creates a protective field around the target
that will negate the first LIFE spell or effect that is
successfully cast upon the recipient. This is
       announced “Life Shield”.
Change: "By the Dark Grip of Death, I Create a Life Shield"
Now the target knows they have 'Life Shield' in effect, even
though it was cast by death. And if we Life Shields always
protect against 'Life' effects it is fairly easy for someone to
ask "Hey, what kind of spell was that' and they will know if the
       shield works or not.
PS: I vaguely remember this spell not being correct in the book,
if it is in a FAQ somewhere cool, I'm just using it as my
example because. I have to go with the edition of the book I
       have in front of me.
