Re: Replacing Tag Rings

Alright, I'm going to try something here. I'm making a second
page for the character sheet that incorporates buff sections.
There is a spot for blade effects you have on you, a spot for
shields, a spot for other common effects, and a spot for you to
write in unusual effects you may have - such as a shield from a
secret path.
I also intend to add a small checkbox that shows how you
benefited from the spell. It just lets you check self, for
spells you cast on yourself, or let you get the initials from
someone else if they cast it on you (Or plot for an NPC/Potion).
My reasoning is thus
1) We're all required to carry around our character sheet
anyway. It isn't quite the same as a tag ring, but we do have
the capability (and with minor edits, a designated space) to
track our armor, health, and mana through the game day. Many
other things are already noted on sheets as well, usually to do
with purchases of crafted goods or instruction use.
2) This not only eliminates confusion on what a player has, but
makes them more aware of what they could have. Do you lack a
death shield? Now you see that empty spot, which is
encouragement to seek such protection out. Out of blade spells?
Go see about getting some more. This can be a boon to
interaction, and help players meet new people.
3) This lets us eliminate any confusion about which buffs stack.
You can get four blade spells at once, so there are four slots
for blade spells - not one for each blade spell in the game. You
can get armor enchantments but that has some class enforced
limits - which can be marked on the sheet next to the pertinent
enchants, along with how much magical armor they have left.
4) Minimizes the number of things you need to carry
5) Lets plots quickly and easily review your enchantments,
health, and so forth just by scanning a piece of paper.
Unfortunately, the way the blank sheet for Aldeon is designed
means that making the second page a static part of the same file
doesn't work very well. Whenever the skills or magic sections
are expanded, it would change the layout of the second page
entirely. For that reason, I'm actually making this the first
page in the file, as it won't be structurally changed even if
people fill in the blanks.

I'm interested in seeing what you come up with. Even if we
don't implement it right away it could be good to print off a
couple for players to test during the next game.

Here is the first draft, for people to tear apart and modify.

Revised based on chats with Zach. This sheet would serve as a
stand-alone buff sheet, carried with your character sheet but
not on the same piece of paper.

I like it and think that it at least deserves a test run. Bring
pencils, players.

I approve of this message. The tag ring system was a mess and
while this system may eat up more paper at least it is more
likely to be used and is easier to make use of.

This has high potential to work out. The problem we will have is
enforcing what happens if X player loses X sheet. Do the start
over with protection spells or do we rely on them to remember
what they had, that a plot call I suppose. Also might be a good
Idea to have them write down who game them what since they are
already writing the buff down to avoid easier cheating.

I think they'd start over from zero if they lost their sheet.
It might be a little mean but it's easier for everyone than just
guessing at it.

I'd enforce the rule of "If you don't know if you had it then
you don't have it."

Thats what I would call too. Just wanted to make sure I was not
thinking too harshly.
