Secondary Monk Faith

Allow a monk to buy levels of faith in a path other than their
starting path with approval from plot and some sort of in-game
force. Faith pools would combine as one to be used as they like.
Have 2 choices for shape-shift perhaps. For ease, say that the
monk only truly follows their original master, but pays tribute
to and respects another force or master. Faith levels would be
tracked separately and other monk powers granted would be from
the highest overall faith level and below.
Spell replication for each path would be determined by that
level of faith for that path. You might have Faith 5 (Fire), but
if you picked up Faith 1 (Water), you'd only have the 1st level
spell replication till you raised your Water faith level

It's definitely an interesting concept, but role-play wise, the
Masters would beg to differ. Mages are considered to 'respect'
multiple Masters. Monks get their powers from supreme devotion
to their chosen Master. If a monk has split devotion, their
power would suffer, as their Master would feel betrayed.
However, I could see this working if we limited the secondary
faith to only spell replication levels, as if to prove that
their faith is still true to only one Master.

This is the skill that I came up with to allow monks the ability
to buy faith in multiple master.
Polytheist
This skill allows characters to have faith in up to three plot
approved Masters. The player must buy faith levels in their
second and third masters seperately, starting at level one.
Faith points acquired through faith levels in one master can be
used for faith abilities of other masters.

I am not a fan of 'faith' in one master being usable on powers
from a different master. I have limited experience with this
part of the game and most of that from John so I am not sure how
reliable that source is (gooooo Chaos, kakaw)

rich423 says: It seems that it would allow for larger faith
pools for individuals, at an easier and lower cost. If its
allowed I would like to see the faith pools kept separate, but I
believe that monks should simply have devotion to one faith.

The faith pools were suggested to stack for several reasons:
easier bookkeeping, less of a headache when trying to police for
plot, also after faith 5, there are currently no monk powers to
be gained, so buying a new variety of faith was suggested as a
way to gain a few new spells while still being relevant overall.

I completely agree that it would be easier book keeping. I
originally thought that it was be a way to game the system in
order to get cheap faith I see now you can continue to purchase
faith levels for a larger faith pool, there are simply no spells
at this time. I agree with rachiesama, role play wise I don't
believe that it makes any sense, as a monk the masters are
giving you those powers because of your devotion. I fail to see
how devotion to chaos for example would allow you faith to use
law effects, or vice versa or any opposed masters, or effects,
as it simply ( to me) just does not make sense from a role play
perspective.
The other issue is that monks receive a discount on purchasing
the faith levels with CP,s for the singular devotion to
him/her/it.

Buying faith in other masters would not be any cheaper. It will
still be 8 CP for monks and if we use my system they have to buy
an ability just to buy that secondary faith. Also, there are
plenty of polytheistic cultures throughout history. Just
because you have faith in one deity doesn't mean you can't have
faith in another. To address the "you can't have faith in both
chaos and law" issue, the skills say faith in a "plot approved"
master. So most of the time you wouldn't be able to do both
chaos and law. However, if you were a monk that focused on the
balance of chaos and law then there might be an argument for
you.
ill
Also, to address the ability to use faith points with you other
master, if a warrior buys long club, long sword, short axe, and
dagger and buys skill +1 in each of them, then they can use all
20 of that stamina on just dagger special attacks/defenses if
they want. And its way easier to keep track of if it is all one
pool.

I agree that it is easier to keep track of. My point that it
would be cheaper to purchase is that monks purchase faith levels
for less than any other class. My apologies as I was not clear
on this point. Your example of using weapons to provide stamina
vs faith pool, I believe is not addressing the warrant of my
point. ( one could argue that building stamina could be done
with simply working out with other weapons, IE if I swing a
heavy long sword 200 times my arm is stronger for me to use
multiple weapons. ) How does it functionally make sense that
having faith in one master gives you access to that power in
another? I agree that many cultures have and many deities
however, generally high priests were specialized in one specific
deity, and many cultures that shared deities went to war with
each other on behalf of said deity. However this is tangential
to the discussion at hand. I think we have provided a great
deal of useful information for the plots to digest go over, and
it is time for them to think on the issue. etc.

It doesn't. You buy faith levels individually, and only the
pools stack. It just means that after faith 5 in one path,
buying additional faith only gives you access to new spells and
more faith points, since you already had access to all the other
abilities from your previous faith.
