While crafting skills are awesome and allow you to make some
REALLY cool stuff... Sometimes you just dont have the components
       to do it.
I say when you have unused production, you can trade that in for
$$, to signify working for someone else (barony ect) much like
folks with TRADE skills get $$ for their skills.
*note, this would only be for unused production, not double
       dipping.
I think this would make the skills a bit more attractive to take
as you save up for the materials cost of XYZ item you want to
make, but do not have anything you need to make at current.

I could definitely get behind this. If it used the same as cost
for production it would be a copper per point of production. So
someone who did not make anything as a level 15 craftsman would
get 6 silver for that game. If they had a forge they could get
up to 2 gold 4 silver.

The only way I could see this being a "bad thing" is if someone
also takes a bunch of trade skills and is part of merchants
guilds and other trades guilds. They would quickly become the
richest person in game and would be able to make, buy, and sell
       almost anything.
However, that would take all their character points. And they
wouldn't be able to be to adventurous on their own. Or have an
actual rank in nobility, they would just be a rich yeoman that
would be taxed and make money for the barony.
