Misc Rules Needing Attention & New Official Non-Plot Roles
By: JessicaE Date: September 27, 2017, 9:03 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The majority of these are rules I've heard others say need to be
looked at. The change I'd personally like to see most is the
Non-Plot Roles in the attached document. Some of them we
technically already do, I'd like them to be added to the book or
at least in their own publicly-accessible document. And of
course feel free to suggest any additional roles that I don't
       have listed.
Food Harvesting: There’s currently no specification on what
sources Forester and Hunter can gather food from. The original
idea was to make Forester only able to harvest food from plants
and Hunter only harvest from animals, but Oceanology makes that
       slightly awkward.
Solution Ideas: Go with the original plan of plants for
Forester and animals for Hunter, with the explanation for
Oceanology that there are edible plants in the ocean such as
kelp or they can harvest plants that grow on the seashore.
Alternatively, we could leave off any limit as to what these two
trade skills can harvest food from, mainly because while
Forester has much to do with plants it also has skills involving
animals too (though for Hunter harvesting plants wouldn’t make
much sense, unless we make it be similar to the harvest of
"special Components" which by the book can be done by Forester
       and Herbalist).
Spirit Form/Water Form: As it reads right now, someone in Spirit
Form can only be affected by a Dispel or Suppression. Exorcise
does state in its description that it can remove a Spirit Form,
but there’s no mention of this in Spirit Form’s own description.
Water Form is worded similarly, with Evaporate seeming to be the
only spell that can affect it. Gaseous Form actually lists what
spells can affect it in its description, while Stone Skin is
       vulnerable to all spells.
Solution Ideas: All form spells could be given only a specific
set of spells and/or paths which affect them, as is already the
case with Gaseous Form. Doing this would not only nerf Spirit
Form and Water Form, but at the same time give a small buff to
       Stone Skin.
Regardless of what solution we choose, Exorcism definitely needs
to be mentioned in Spirit Form’s description (so long as we do
keep it as a way to break a Spirit Form).
Battle Rage & Blood Rage: Either specify that they can be used
from -1 body or ensure it is run by the book where they must be
       conscious to use them.
Foci Arrows/Bow: There’s nothing saying whether to cast spells
through a bow requires the bow or the arrows to have foci on
them. I believe it’s been run as the arrows in the past.
Rewrites: During a pre-reg we agreed on the following temporary
       changes:
       1. You do not keep your character deaths if you rewrite into a
completely different character (changing their name, race,
       class, etc).
       2. You do keep your character deaths if you rewrite as the same
       character with changed stats.
       3. A rewrite can be used after a resurrection pick is failed to
retain full character points, but unlike when a rewrite is used
normally the possessions of the previous character must be
       handed over to plot.
(I’m primarily bringing this up in case we want to change it
any, or simply add it to the book to make it official.)
Breaking Down Equipment: I remember us discovering during one of
the games that apparently we have no written rules for breaking
       down equipment into components.
Solution Ideas: (Heath:) There was an errata idea that I wrote
up but did not propose adding a function to Weapon Smith and
Armor Smith that allowed equipment to be broken down and return
75% of the materials used to compose the item. The other
craftsman skills wouldn’t be able to be broken down into its
component parts again. You could allow Hunters, Miners, and
Woodworkers to recover hides, ores, and woods from armor and
weapons and Jewelers to recover ore from jewelry (this could
alternatively be done by an Armor Smith).
(Jon:) I believe that it should be a Smith skill only. Simply
because the Tradesman skills thematically are for collecting raw
       resources not reclaiming refined resources.
Jewelers though makes sense that they could reclaim gems/75% of
       the cost to make.

Food harvesting: I am coming from a limited point as I have not
done much research into these. However my basic knowledge of
gardening and hunting (note basic) I could see overlap of what
you can harvest from after level 6. I would say Oceanography
people would need to specify what they harvest at the onset,
then gain access to the other above level 6. Just a thought,
       debate away.
Battle Rage and Blood Rage: This was answered (in my opinion)
with the introduction of Ferocity. Meaning you have to be
conscious to use them. If you buy Ferocity, it allows you to
use them in the -1 timeframe. Or that was my understanding.
Bows and Arrows: I love Archery. However, it takes a lot of
work. I think the BOW should be foci’d and the arrows be a
special type of arrow that cost SLIGHTLY more production to
make. As the bow is actually in the Casters Hands, and the
Arrow is Merely the delivery for it. I can see both arguments.
       Needs discussion.

I think it wouldn't be worth the trouble to try and split food
harvesting. While it may not make a ton of sense, the type of
food you eat has no impact on the benefits you receive, and the
sticks simply say "Food". Adding more complexity to this doesn't
seem to me like it would add any worthwhile benefit

Well as described by the book the foci is what it needs to be
cast through, which would currently require the arrow to have a
foci on it. The problem is you would not want the Bow to have a
foci because then your spell would not go anywhere, and would
'tie' itself to the bow. What needs to be done is change the
       wording in the Foci section.

I really don't see any reason to not allow the bow to be
focused. Requiring archers to have focus arrows just makes it
harder to be an archer, which we should be trying to avoid.
But mechanically, you're basically channeling a magical effect
into the arrow through the bow's focus and then releasing the
arrow and its effect onto your target.
