       The Dreaded Reset
By: ZachC Date: February 1, 2016, 1:15 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
With the upcoming venue change, a reset is inevitable. With
this in mind, we need to figure out the best method of going
       about the reset.
The current idea I'm working with is to move everyone back to
1/3 of their character points or 45 CP, whichever is higher.
For a lot of characters, the 45 CP option will be what they get
but I don't want to encourage people to hoard their xp. I've
considered putting a cap on how much xp can be brought over to
the new game, but I think a better route might be to make every
character buy at least one point at checkout.
I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on the matter. We want
the transition to be easy while staying reasonable.

A number of questions need to be asked before informed decisions
can be made regarding the Reset.
What does the Plot team for after the Reset Want to do?
Will the article (and other research) regarding the European
Style gaming have an effect on the direction of the game?
Do we want the next 4 months to matter. (Because it does not for
most of the player base who will be stuck at the cap).
I think Austen brought up a good point that I will paraphrase:
'Why should I bother lugging all the gear here if I don't get
       anything for it.
My proposal: Let the people who are planning to donate the next
2+ years of their life into the game decide how to do it. It
should not stop the peanut gallery from chiming in on this
forum, but as far as nutz/bolts it will be the people running
the game that should make the decision.
If the game is going to take place in the Aldeon World, there is
little reason for some of the characters to not be able to
transition over. Those higher level characters losing all of
their Contacts/perceived advantages will balance things,
especially if Plot upscale the encounters for those specific
individuals (without giving more rewards). Natural attrition
will take care of balancing them with others.

I think that most everyone except possibly two people will take
45 Cp route. 1/3 of my projected Cp is going to be around 49
when reset hits so I really feel that 1/3 of the cp will be too
low. Like Zaud said, it really depends on what direction plots
want to take it, but some mid level to high level players will
not want to see their work just go away due to the reset.
Like you stated, if people do fear they are going to lose most
of their Cp, they will just start saving X.p. for the reset, I
know that would be my plan. I think only letting a certain
amount of xp carry over is a bad idea, as it discourages people
to play the game, pre reg and Npc, and other things. Forcing
people to buy at least one Cp is a good answer that should not
       get people worried.
These are just my opinions, maybe others feel differently about
       CP and XP.

I have been thinking about the Reset, and quite frankly it
should Reset everything. What people did 'in the past' should be
meaningless to the new Plot Running the game. A form of 'what
have you done for me lately' being taken into account.
Now, I still want to address the fact that the next 6 months
will be meaningless for most people from Plot/Character/Any
useful long term benefit. Basically it will be like going to a
Movie. You can be entertained while you are there, so do not get
me wrong, attendance will exist even if nothing happens.
So my thought is let the next 6 months matter. Have the 'reset'
occur Now and let the XP (from Attendance and 'Helping the Game)
matter that characters earn from now to the new game. People
would not get XP for killing monsters or 'money' they collect
since that is 'this game' and we are looking towards the Next
       one.
Personally this is the 'fairest' way to do it. It allows Plot to
get some XP since they are 'Helping the Game' (an amount to be
determined), and new players who come in can use the time to
       experiment.
ANOTHER Option (but not the only other one):
Let people keep any character that could reasonably 'move' to
the new setting. Any PC that is 'too powerful' or does not fit
into the new plot is shelved until the new group of players gets
       to a high enough level.
ANOTHER Option: If the new plot have not Written the Game Yet,
let them decide how they want to do it. Informed decisions are
far better then the Peanut Gallery chiming in and then being
disgruntled that their idea was not implemented.
       ANOther oPTION:
Make everyone start at 3 level but give an 'xp' multiplier (like
x2) for as many games as person has played/staffed Aldeon. This
starts everyone at the same level, but allows for faster
advancement in recognition of what players have done to support
       the game in the past.

No. It is unfair to allow any one person or even a group of
people pick and choose to determine who is/isn't "too powerful"
       or "does not fit"

As a GM, I make those decisions all the time and I do not see a
difference for a Plot person. We (as players) can make all sorts
of claims and have opinions, but we do not know 'the whole
story' like the main Plot people should.
You make a decent point, but in practice people do make those
       decisions.

As a high level character within the game, I say we throw it all
out. Full reset. No xp or CP kept by anyone.
If you're good at the game or even just show up regularly and
fight stuff, you'll advance. Presumably whatever way you used to
level up a character is still a possibility, so just do what
       you've been doing.

As a high level character, I really dont want to see a full
reset. I dont want to see two years of work just thrown out.

What I don't understand is that players forgetting about
enjoying their characters. I know that people have put alot of
time into their characters in this campaign but even if you were
to keep your character, how much longer do you have before you
get tired of it? At some point you will want to have a new story
to gain new interest and lead a new path. I myself enjoy my
character and want to fulfill his story, but at some point I
will feel like there is nothing left and will want to start
anew. Most of you I believe have always heard the phrase in
games, "Don't get too attached to you Character." I see no
reason why anyone should be upset about work they have put into
something that a game. Build the character to have fun with a
good story, a reset should harm no one.

If its any consolation, we're planning some epic events for the
game's final few months. I encourage players to play their
character to its fullest potential because some future lore
could be decided on in these months.
