Thats the thing. Flowig cloaks and such are supposed to be a
bigger target. In exchange for that weakness each of those races
has good benefits to playing them. The reason a rogue or fast
warrior wear tight fitting clothes is to be less of a Target .
You play certain races at your own peril. If you make it to
where the person had to 100% feel it everytime then You get
players who will just say they didnt feel it. Then in response
players will start throwing harder and thats definatly not what
we want or safe.

I don't think there is a point where throwing packets so hard
that it can become unsafe. And as big flowing clothes being
downsides to playing races, I think that's a very weak argument
at best, saying that playing a basic race is a downside because
they catch magic easier on their clothes. However, you are spot
on with the fact that it is a trust system. If we move to you
have to feel it or hit you on a part of your body, it will be
even more difficult to make calls, because baggy
clothing/cloaks/ is hard to tell when body starts and ends. For
magic, a hit is a hit.

In my opinion, flowing clothes are not supposed to make you a
target, in most cases, it is to better represent which race you
are playing. I'm worried that if this does pass, then we will
get less players wanting to costume according to their race and
class, and more according to what is going to happen in the
battlefield. Hence, the other classes dressing like Rogues and
Warriors.

Would catching magic easier not be a downside to playing a race
with typically flowing clothes?

While I'm not sure I want to say that its a downside to specific
races, I think that the call that magic effects you if it grazes
your clothes makes for less interesting costuming. Cloaks are
cool. They are historically useful, too. But the game as it
stands prevents most people from even considering wearing one
because then they're a magnet for magic attacks. It is
generally pretty easy to tell if you get hit with a packet on
the leg or the torso, or the arms. But if the cuff of my pants
(and my fighter pants are very baggy) gets nicked, I won't be
able to tell.
Example: At this last game, I was apparently dodging packets
left and right from a dragon and I can't help but think surely
one or two of them probably grazed my pants. I didn't feel it,
though, and no one called me on it. There were no holds and
everything continued smoothly.
The fact that we have an honor system should strengthen the
argument for letting the defender decide if a hit was
successful. If someone gets hit with a kill spell on their
flowy cloak, they shouldn't be penalized. Same for if they try
very hard to evade a packet but their pants just barely get
touched by it. Obviously if someone shrugs off a shot directly
to the torso they should be called on it, but I think we're all
mature enough to know when we got hit and to call it as such.
