I don't think so. I think we could change the Mentor skill to
give it a perk that allows you to teach someone an extra thing
per day. We shouldn't automatically undermine the rules changes
we make by creating countering game mechanics. I think that it
makes the decision mean less.
However, if we did put a limit on and people really wanted a way
to bypass it then we could create a "Fast Learner" scholar skill
or something. I just think that it would render the whole
exercise moot.

OK, that's a fair point.

I like it. Let's just limit everyone to only getting 3 skills
per game. I guess research can not count towards it. Then I
suppose we could still introduce spell books some because I
think they'd be cool.

Me too. I want to research while I research about research.

I would like to note that in my opinion the reason that spells
are being proliferated so much is because of how many more
resets we have at games from the system the game was generated
from. Day games in Westmark never had a reset. Aldeon does and
regularly have half resets that give you your full instruction
slots back if you have only one level of instruction. There is
your problem right there. Maybe it should be made that
Instruction doesn't reset during day games and at camp out games
it only resets once. That would fix a lot of the problems
without needing to put a cap on spell instruction or have the
spell books introduced or any other fix.

That's a fair point, Sean. We've been giving out half-resets at
day games because players have been asking for it so that's a
discussion that plots will have to have amongst themselves and
with the player base. That doesn't necessarily fix the problem
though since a player can beg a single Instruction slot off of
most players with no issue and possibly one or two from NPCs.

It does fix most of them though. It cuts the players instruction
potential to trade in half thus slowing their progress by at
least another month. If you are afraid of NPCs giving out too
much then plot needs to pull back on what its NPCs give out.
Also as a note, Julia told me that her character trades a lot in
favors. Perhaps NPC notes should be made on those favors and
every now an then make plots out of those favors. The amount of
knowledge that gets released in a game, for the most part, is on
Plot whether it is NPCs teaching or Plot Bribe, or through items
in game. There is a very limited amount of skills, spells, and
other abilities that players have in game and once we get to
more higher level players, especially since I'm at 7 and I'm
going to assume most people who are still here from the first
game are that or higher, they are going to exhaust PC resources
and come to Plot to learn new things. I don't think this is a
mechanics issue, mostly, I think it is how freely NPCs are
giving information on an IOU basis when really they shouldn't or
at the very least should be seeing money, skills, or tangible
payment come their way.

So its looking like the best option is honestly to just have
Instruction not reset during game. That would allow for
half/full resets in day games in case people really needed it
(though I think we should cut down on those some, too).

I think that's the easiest solution. To clarify instruction
doesn't reset? How many spells could you then learn out of
spellbooks? Since we're looking to limit the amount of spells
you have I would say 3.

And have the 'reset' occur at the end of the night or 'sunday'
morning would give people incentive to 'stay the night' at the
games vs take off early (so they can get out of helping clean
up)
