Natural armor vs resisting contact posion
By: Lothar6669 Date: June 8, 2015, 9:57 am

My thought has always been they should take whatever contact
poison they touch. Natural armor has always been a really big
perk and anyone who has been offered it pretty much takes it.
The only draw back is that It cost cp to buy. But with it
already being weightless, healed by magic by x3, resists waylays
the fact that it does not require a phys rep and resists weapon
delivered contact poisons puts it as a top/god tier skill. It
also confuses me why weapon delivered contact does not work and
regular contact would. And now that we have an entire class that
has access to it, i think we should tweak it to where they just
get take contact poisons
Also, I cant find any reference materials anywhere that say
natural armor gets resist contact poisons outside of larp.

If natural armor was just tough skin I would agree but it should
also be your ability to not get hit. If you don't get hit then
there isn't any reason to take the poison.

I was under the impression that natural armor was just tough
skin/thick fur/scales ect. But lets look at vorpal for a moment.
If there is a vorpal 12 on an arrow and you get shot by it, you
don't somehow get hit by the arrow but not the poison.

Vorpals aren't a great example since they effect the weapon.
They do not need to contact skin in order to increase the amount
of damage that they do.
A better example would be like sleep contact, in that case you
would use up your natural armor to take the damage but you
wouldn't take the contact poison. The reason being that you
weren't hit.

I could maybe see scales and other things like that stopping it,
but monks just have hardened skin though training. So i guess my
point is it is still part of them, so why would it not be
absorbed through the skin. In any case, I still think natural
armor is too strong for what it costs vs the perks of it and
this would be a minor Nerf that would help balance it out.

Healing requires a willing mage with mana. Also NA can't be
repaired without an italicized racial skill. As for Monks, where
in the book does it say that their natural armor comes from
hardened skin? I know most monsters have that kind of NA, but
there have been PC races in the past who gained it from a
supernatural ability to dodge blows.

It does not have to be a mage, you could also drink a heal 18
potion in the middle of a fight and be back up to full. Or yes
you could have a mage toss some mana your way. And a super
natural ability to dodge blows sounds silly to me. If you had
that then you would not need to take damage because you could
just move. Am I really the only one who thinks natural armor is
a bit too strong right now?

An example of natural armor without being super naturally good
at dodging would be Khal Drogo from game of thrones. His skins
not like leather but he does get around weapons easily. Back to
the point, I think natural armor is okay where it is. Most
people aren't going to have the healing capabilities to restore
it easily. Most mages don't want to spend the mana after every
fight and potions get expensive.

Stephen and Jonathon are on point with the fact that natural
armor isn't necessarily hardened skin, scales, rock-like flesh,
or whatever. I personally interpret my character's natural
armor as a sort of "luck bonus" more than anything. It can be
more abstracted like that. Right now, Natural Armor functions
as manufactured armor as far as protecting against contact
poisons. If there is need to nerf it then removing the
protection against contact poisons might not be the worst idea.
I would not call this a minor nerf due to the fact that any
weapon delivered contact poisons would affect the character if
the blow hits at all but there are still things like Alchemy
Shield, Deflect, and Evade to help get characters out of it.

I think NA is fine at the moment. 10cp for 40 points of armor +
extra CP if you can ever manage to find a teacher for repair,
and till then you're begging mana or buying potions
