shields

The mono cost of shield for any size doesnt make sense. If sword
length determines cost then so should shield size. I recommend,
buckler 20 square inch max, same as longsword cost
Shield 35 square inch max ,same as current shield cost
Large shield/tower 36 and up , same as greatsword cost

I originally agreed with Rocket, but then I thought a bit more
and decided the skill is probably ok the way it is.
Here is my rational: Using a small shield is actually more
difficult then using a Large Shield, but in most cases in the
game 'bigger=more costly' so making the smaller shield more
costly then the heavy shield would open up controversy, and in
truth, arguments can be made either way.
I then thought: Split the cost up fairly evenly, and make the
cost of the First shield form a person was taking cost a bit
more, and the second on a bit less due to law of diminishing
returns. This opens up doors for 'was this first or second'
shield taken and having to describe this rule in the book.
I considered that the shield skill has built into it the ability
of the person to use it in their off hand, (like having the two
weapon fighting skill but always using the off weapon for
parrying) and thinking of it this way, the cost of shield skill
seems fully justified, or at the very least, not worth adding
the extra paragraphs to the rule book breaking it down would
take.
We can fall back to statistics (though based on observation, not
actual numbers) and the game seems to have a fair number of
Shield Users so the cost does not seem to be keeping people from
playing shield man).

Are you referring to shield style or weapon skill? Because you
technically can buy small or short shield weapon skill.

Shields in general. Its ridiculous that a tower shield cost the
same as a normal shiels

I could maybe understand the adjusted cost if as Zach pointed
out in case of using it as a weapon you attack with but
regardless of the size of the shield if you are just using it
for defense I dunno if I'm fully behind the cost CP wise. Bigger
shields require more components and cost more and they also make
you a bigger target for spells and there are special attacks for
getting around a tower shield. I think it is balanced but I
wouldn't mind entertaining debate on it if it could be worked in
a way that wouldn't kill using a shield for everyone.

Yes there are special attacks to et through shields... Of any
size, but a bigger shield will stop more and make it way harder
to get off all other special attacks.

Or i would argue to limit shield size once again like it used to

I could see an idea for a size restriction or make a certain
size a two handed shield. Tower shields historically were used
in a support roll. One whole person held the shield while
another person fought around the ends of the shield or it was
placed in the ground as a fixed shield then the person drew
their weapon to fight in that fixed area. Perhaps something like
that should be considered where if you are welding a shield
above a certain size category it was considered a two handed
shield.

Let me ask this question. Where have you seen shield size be a
problem in this game?
