Youncan offer a service for a scroll. Maybe this will make
silver a higher priority instead of just switching it out for xp
and have it circulate between players. alsonit will make trade
skills matter more by virture of that.

How would the cost for research work with the spell book? Would
you pay for the research and then pay again to inscribe it in
       the book?

The spell lab talks about transcribing it into the labs library,
that could easily be reworded to transcribe it to the spell book
as well as paying for.it once then haveing to pay for it again i
       feelmwould be to much.

Im pretty against the changing of instruction. And im sure that
when this gets pitched to more that 10% of the player base,
other will be too. If we want to slow down spell progression we
should just limit how caring the NPC's with spells and
instruction are. Not every mage has instruction, so its not like
everyone just swaps spells for spells.

I'd have to say that the spell book requiring days to record and
then learn the spell wouldn't be a good fix since you can
exchange recipes for things like poisons and potions and then be
able to immediately use them. I don't believe that we want to
slow spell progression to a crawl but I do believe it should be
slowed. One of the ideas that I had was to slow it down by
making it to where any one character can only learn up to three
things per game whether those things be skills or spells. This
would only apply to things requiring instruction to teach.

I'm willing to consead that "days" to inscribe might be to much
since alchemists can do it then and there. But to learn I think
it should be days. And if you still want to learn a spell right
now there are always scrolls. As long as you have the path you
immediately learn it. That's how I got glyph of warding back in
       the day.

I like Heath's idea, not sure 'three' is a good number
necessarily, but it is a good starting point.
If the number is set at 'One', it could open door for an
inexpensive skill (example: Quick Study: +2 'learning' for 1 cp
(that can be bought multiple times for someone that 'really'
wants to fast track learning), I can't think of good example for
'Teacher' like professions that could be better at teaching to
bypass a persons limits, but I'm sure good examples of them are
       out there as well)

Well there is Stephen Ritterbush's whole Mentor trade skill that
we worked up together which is all about helping people learn
stuff and do research. I think one is a little too punitive for
everyone and would give mages a leg up again because there isn't
any such thing as a warrior scroll.

I'd prefer to keep instruction the way it is. Scrollmaking is
good for stockpiling, as well as for keeping random utility
spells you won't often need, but would be almost impossible to
do without in certain situations. Learning spells from scrolls
was always just meant to be a bonus, as well as a way certain
spells could be included as treasure without dealing with an
       entire NPC.

Well, Naruto learned a pretty darn good technique from a scroll,
so it is not without precedent for other warriors to do the
       same.
