For reference
Instruction
This skill allows a character to teach another character any
skill the character with the Instruction
skill possesses. A character with this skill can teach up to 3
separate students at a time. He may purchase
additional Instruction skills to teach 3 more students per
purchase. An Instructor may also teach 1 spell
per Instruction Slot to a student.
The ability to learn spells through it makes any scoll making
obsolete, as insruction is a far more efficient way in learning
spells ( does not cost any xp, vs the cost of silver or even
gold to high level spells) it invalidates a core part of what
scroll making was designed to due, and it removes costs for
magic users in that they don't have to buy said scrolls. I have
mentioned this in the magic mastery thread, however I believe
this topic deserves its own thread, as it may foster role play,
but mechanically making an entire craftsmen skill obsolete, and
removing all cost from learning new spells, it simply becomes to
easy to learn these things.

While I agree that the use of Instruction to exchange spells
often makes spell progression a bit too rapid I would disagree
that scroll making is useless. I wouldn't really deem a skill
that lets you stockpile whatever spell you wanted to a
ridiculous level to be useless at any point. It does slightly
lessen its usefulness but not to the point of being useless. Do
you have any suggestions on a way to slow down spell
progression?

I do, I would say that you could not use instruction to teach
new spells, as it is simply to efficient for any other way to
compete, its a classic " why would i do x when i can do y and y
is just better. This may sound extreme but if something is
strictly superior to something else then why would an individual
do anything else?
As for making scroll making useless, This skill seems to be
primarily a trade skill, with rules detailing it as such for
selling the items for respective mages, to learn new spells, (
other wise why would those rules even exist? ) Maybe useless
is to strong a word, it is obsolete its function as a trade
skill as instruction is simply better at it.

Spell books are still an option. And almost never used.

I am.not saying other ways dont exist but they are all strictly
inferior to intruction due to the no cost nature of the skill,
and the spell swapping that goes on.

I think Micheal's trying to say that spell books would be a good
way to handle the transference of spells without just letting
Instruction do all the heavy lifting.

Ahh that could potentially work, but dont you have the same
problem of swapping spells, or would theybhave to trade at
least a scroll which would have to be inscribed for a cost?

I kind of think that the cost would be similar to the exchanging
of alchemy recipes where 2 silver is spent per level of the
effect but that's just the first thing that comes to mind.

Its 2 silver per lvl. And buying a new book is a gold for the
book then 2 silver per lvl if you want spells in it. Make it
have a wizard foci in it and boom now you have an even greater
reason to have one.
