Report: Next Xbox to Sport a 16-Core CPU
By: crazynutsx Date: April 13, 2012, 7:59 am
---------------------------------------------------------
If you haven't had your fill of Xbox 720 rumors and
speculations, new reports of the Durango's internals suggest
some heavy hardware for Microsoft's next console.
Via Computer and Video Games, the latest issue of Britain's Xbox
World magazine reveals that developers received Durango devkits
last month, purportedly packing a 16-core IBM Power PC CPU and a
GPU similar to AMD's Radeon HD 7000-series graphics cards.
The alleged devkits do not sport the console's final appearance,
although the sources were confident that the hardware within are
consistent with what we can expect to see when the Xbox 360's
successor is released late next year.
Although the thought of a 16-core powered console makes us
salivate in anticipation, this information (as with most rumors)
should be taken with a grain of salt. Video game consoles aren't
typically equipped with state of the art, up to date hardware
and, while we can dream, this news seems a bit far fetched.

Whilst I own a console station, ya, a few, they remain an enigma
to me. Whilst they hold a large market share, they remain
obsolete in terms of technology being used. PC's out strip
console in terms of performance any day of the week.

If we're talking desktops I wouldn't disagree, not for laptops.
I've built many desktop gaming systems, including thermal
refrigeration systems, hence if you want the best you build it,
desktop.
Laptops are a different ball game, once upon a time if you
wanted a good desktop replacement there wasn't a lot of choice,
Dell XPS, Alienware, MSI, Voodoo etc. All these systems has + /
- but overall Alienware gave you newest technology in the
market into a laptop without compromise, unlike all the other
manufacturers. When Alienware introduced 64bit op systems, with
sata drives,, and new core cpu's others we're still living off
promoting Ghz as the bench mark, but using old generation chips,
and slow hard drives, etc.
I've owned XPS, Alienware, and an array of other systems, and to
date my six year old Alienware laptop rocks with the newest of
systems in the general market.
2.53 CPU
8gb DDR ram
1920x1280 screen. Hmm very nice, apple quality..
Dual xfire ATI G-cards, 1gb ram.
Considering it now an old girl in computer years, it's still a
great machine....

i think laptops just arent the way to go for gaming ?
they cost a hell of alot more then desktops
generaly you can have a laptop to the same specs as a desktop
and it will cost more.
Laptops just overheat soo much and with in a month of 2 become
un realiable
deskktop trumps of gaming laptops anyday of the week in my
opinion

Totally agree, if you want to play seriously then you need a top
performing machine. This can only presently be achieved by
desktop systems.
Laptops fulfil a hole in the market for those like myself who
travel alot. General laptops graphic wise, are very poor. Hence
like alot of marketing ploys you gotta buy all the bells and
whistle to get a machine that has a quality screen, and
graphics.

I have both :)
iPad II
Alienware 17"
- This I normally leave where ever I'm located versus humping it
around all the time.
