Laurie, I realised the input error on the date of my detachment
and have modified my post it was infact 1965, thanks buddy.

My detachment to 114 MCRU in early 1965 had us on the original
site before the move to the other side of the base. Others I
remember on detachment from Buchan at this time were Neil
Stockley, Ginger Brownlea, and Jon Anderson. Gerry Haley was
well installed there having come up from Singas some months
before this I believe.

I was posted to Bukit Gombak from Marham in 64. After 5 months
the WO who I knew from Bawdsey asked me if I would like a
posting to Butterworth, I jumped at the chance. Butterworth /
Changkat was without a doubt my best posting. Like everyone else
I had some KD made by the base tailor, ( the RAF issue KD was
made in the year I was born.)
Whilst waiting for one of the Aussies to return home I slept on
a camp bed for a few days, next to me was our billet dog who
produced a litter of atleast 7 pups.
After taking my RAF driving test I would take my turn doing the
Changkat driving, taking guys on and of duty, collecting, 40
gallon drums of fuel for the generator and so on.
I enjoyed working with the Aussies. My watch Sgt was Bill Kelly,
Col Krohn was the CPL. Other guys I remember were Peter Hamilton
,Rex,Woody Woods, Graham Penny. RAF guys were Ricky,Monty
Staddon,Terry Newton
Vince,Ted Edwards,Ernie Hamer and many others.
Changkat was like a second home for me and I will always have
fond memories.
