No-one has yet started any threads in this area so I thought I
would put this up.
Not sure if it will work as it links to a Facebook page. Giving

Seems to have worked okay.
Looks like the eastern end of the old East/West runway, before
moving out to the opposite end of the same runway make way for
33 Sqn's Bloodhounds.

Laurie,
The picture shows the old 114 site, which was later moved over
the main road close to the Butterworth swimming pool, Radio
Butterworth were a bit upset as the radar interfered with the
signal every time the radar (MPS7 I think) swept past their
transmitter, emitting a horrible buzz.

Vince, thanks. It was an MPS7.
Looked that way to me as well. Wasn't aware of the interference
with the radio station but did know of the zip-zip sound on the
soundtrack of any film showing at the Astra everytime the
nodding donkey was pointed that way! ::)

Laurie, I was there on a 3 month detachment from March to May
1965 then back to Buchan for a few weeks. Then told to my utmost
joy that I was returning for a full tour.
114 MCRU was a great place to work and the Aussies were a great
bunch, although we Brits did feel like second class citizens due
to the differences in pay (Aussies got about double ours :'( )
and the quality of their uniforms put our WW2 issue to shame, so
I quicky went to the tailors at Butterworth to have some new kit
made.
Changkat, as your picture shows was fairly primitive but will
always hold a special place in my memory. I loved the place and
volunteered to go there as often as possible.
C Convoy I'm afraid just brings back thoughts of utter boredom.

escape. I have often wondered what happened to him.

Ricky, know what you mean about the differences in pay etc
between us and the Aussies. It always was a bone of contention.
Like you, one of the first things I did after arrival was get a
decent set of KD made.
Are you sure it was 66 for your detachment? I thought that you
were already at 114 full time when I arrived on 11 May 66.
Like the photo of Clive. Have often wondered what became of him
as well. Anyone know?
I think the hill at Changkat has pretty well gone; bulldozed.
Really will have to take a trip down that way in the future.
