When I did the Instructors Technique Course in 6 or 67 it was
held at RAF Upwood. Strange thing about this course is that
all the students were of various ranks from WO to Cpl. One of
the course instructors gave a 45 minute lecture, the subject
being 'Rivets on a fire extinguisher'!!!! Great course,
lots of fun, and surprise surprise I got a certificate of
commendation for my sample lesson, namely an introduction to
GEOREF to the other students.
Bit of a joke really because we were allowed to give the other
participants a question to ask.
One good thing about Upwood, when I there, a course of Iranian
Air Officers was also on the go, during this time the Shah's
wife gave birth to a son and resulting from this they threw a
party on the base, free booze, food etc - great evening.

That is one question that has always puzzled me Bill. The only
other possible sender is someone from my past. A daunting
thought that someone I knew from days gone by would do such a
thing. Dont like to dwell on that possibility. The problem is it
came up in conversation with Barbara the other day and she still
reflects on the possibility that it was true in spite of all my
protestations. TB

That is one thing I couldn't see happening with you two, not
after all the suggestions advice that was given to you in
Cyprus, about your career and band playing. If it had happened
it would have happened then and Barbara would have gone then
leaving you up carp creak without a paddle.
But not to worry it's all in the past and it's not likely to
happen. As my wife says she'd hate to have to train somebody
else to her standards after all the time she's spent on me so I
think you're safe. :D

Thanks for that Bill. True Barbara did put up with a lot since
we got married. Unfortunately I am not one to learn by my
mistakes and continued to make more mistakes as will be revealed
as my historic goes on. What with my sports activities and
playing guitar, she has had a rough time of it. So this could,
as you say so rightly, put me right up the creek. Luckily she
stayed for the course and we celebrated 50 years marriage last
October. TB

Bawdsey was so tame compared to Swinderby that my memories are
flat in comparison to square bashing. Mind you I'd have liked to
have stayed there had it not been for Len Mainprize telling Val
the server that I was only 17 so couldn't sup. He was a right
snitch that man telling everybody everything he could to stir
the shight. I wonder whatever happened to Elaine Duggan and
Pedro the camp mystic. I think his name was Geoff Fairhurst and
he was a Dr Strange type of character who was in nightly contact
with Astaroth the Angel of death.......... what a load of
cobblers.

Great wasn't it and what you posted summed up my time there. I
was bawled out by one Flight Sergeant Dean a couple of times
though, strict son of a camel he was.
