All who've been ther have forgotten?
This is the ONLY station i've not had to explain my accent to
the locals - good eh?

.....as I told the education officer when he asked me if I
liked being at RAF Boulmer, in the interview with him before my
demob in 1963 at RAF Boulmer, 'I didn't know places like it
existed, it was a place that was started and never finished,
worse camp I had been on'.

When I first got to Boulmer in 1978 from trade training I wasnt
even aware of where it was.That first winter 78-79 was freezing
snow everywhere and i hated the place.However after I left the
place in 1986 on demob I never thought Id see it again.However
the last 20 yrs I ve seen more of it than when I worked there as
its my cadet sqns parent unit. Im up there a fair bit.In fact
Ive got to go there next week to pick up a clothing order from
stores and in a few months it will be a visit to MT to get my
600 re-authorised. Not to mention visitng the top site to use
the range etc.

I was fortunate to get a 6 or 8 week detachment here over the
summer of 1971. We had a fantastice time, spoilt rotten by
permanent staff and the NAFFI staff. (At the time it was an
all male posting). I don't think we were too popular with the
local girls though! From memory the WRAFS from Buchan who were
detatched to Boulmer were: Dizzy Seabourne, Alison Roden, Lin
Guild (WRAF ADMIN) Rae Carmichael, Val Hill, Hazel Smith plus
one or two others I forgotten.
It was during this time that I had too much to drink, for the
first and last time in my life.

Linda, do you know when the WRAFs left Boulmer, as you say in
1971 it was an all male posting?
I was one of 12 WRAFs who was posted there in 1961 to open the
camp for permanent WRAFs as up until then they had 'stay at home
WRAFs' there as it was an all male camp.

Went to Boulmer in 64,with the Patrington -------- team,
Was invited to go for a drinkie at Alnmouth with some of Boulmer
lads, the night before the match,some of us having more than
one,
Not a good result next day i'm afraid,lost 2-1 I think.
Our best player being Graham Gibson if I remember correctly!
Can't remember Jim Frere being there though,as he was at Pat
then.

Ian, I was there with both round ball and oval ball teams from
Patrington - met up with Pat Thompson (WRAF) who had been at
Compton B. at the same time as me and Steve B. and yes we
consumed too much the night before the game!!

They've got a range on site now Tony? We used to have to go and
use the range at Ponteland.Good day out that as we used to go to
one of the pubs and have a few beers after we had finished,
before heading back.

Did 2 one week detachments to Boulmer from Spadeadam for
Promotion exam training as we had none at spade. First time they
had a call out so I spent the time in the pub. CJP was the
Instructor so lots of drinking was done. Second time the Argies
decided to invade the Falklands s I did not do anything again.
Found some good pubs though.
