I knew a Johnny Waters who was at Patrington and he could surely
have been a passenger! (what a character)
I have placed a picture on the gallery 'scenes from posting'
thread of John which I took when we were in Bahrain.

During the week I was at 'Pat' a few of us went down to
Withernsea one evening for a few bevvies and to visit the fun
fair. Someone got chatting to a very georgeous young lady and
was doing well until.... One of the fairgroung workers went over
and, not too politely, told him to get lost. The young lady was
the daughter of the fair ground owner and he was not too
pleased. Considering the able bodies that were stood there
glaring at us we decided that discretion was the better part of
valour and hoofed it, smartish. (I think the guilty party was
one James Geach, but I am not sure). TB

I remember the fair coming to Winkleburg in 1970. When you got
back to camp there were hundreds of Goofy Birds in the windows
in the billets dipping their snouts in a cup of water nodding
back and forth. Even after all these years, I still have mine,
and believe it or not, it still works too.

Patrington was my first posting in 1968. I remember first person
I met was John Howie who talked in some strange language like
"say again and "negative" I did three weeks there in March
working in the med centre as a TAG u/t ADO before going to
Bawdsey for training with instrutors Jim Pink, Alfie Tapsall and
Dave Davies. Scopies I remember == FS Eddie Dean CJP Dave
Healing, Paddy Mcuuloch, Speedy Middleton, to name a few. There
was also a guy called Quinn, who dared us all to find him on
camp, when no-one could find him he said he was hidden in the
ditch behind the billets , breathing through a straw. (strange
bloke!!) Seven months later I was posted to 280 SU .

It would seem that the Sunday night dances at the Horizon club
during the 1960's where very popular with the local girls as I'm
always coming across people here in Withernsea who reminise
about those distant memories.
Seemingly, even the transport was layed on..... Nowadays they
still get free transport thanks to the bus pass!
