Bempton in 1959/60 when he was an SAC. He boxed for Fighter
Command and I also think the RAF. Believe he would be a
feather weight, height about 5ft 4'ish. Ken's mate at Bempton
was a 6ft 2 National Service lad from Bradford , the name Roger
Young rings a bell. Like so many names that come up - wonder
what happened to Ken??? anyone know. Brian

Quite right Brian. Ken was an accomplished bruiser. Held the
fighter command Featherweight belt at one time if I recall. Dont
know what happened to ken after I left 18 months later. TB

I have only come across a couple of names I recognized from
Bawdsey 58 and 59, one was a friend of my ex. his name is Ian
and I gave him my ex's address. Ian's wife was one of our
bridesmaids, but they are also divorced now. As for the others,
I wonder if they are still around. There was an Alex Wiley, he
and two or three others were good friends, Fred ...? and John
Wells, Maggie Murphy and I used to go off to the cinema or
wherever with them, just as friends, though I think Maggie was
sweet on Fred. John Wells was supposedly the brother of Julie
Andrews. There was Connie Young, she married Mike MacDonald and
I believe from what I heard on another site, they ran a pub at
Elstree.

I must have joined the watch just after you left Laurie. Marion
eventually left to get married to a 'scopie' in Hong Kong or
Singapore, around 1967/68. Very nice person. TB

Connie Young and Mike MacDonald did indeed run a pub in
Borehamwood near the Elstree film studio, I visited them there a
number of times, then suddenly they just disappeared it was all
very strange and I would love to know what happened to them and
where they are now.

Laurie. These are excellent photo's. I would really like copies
for the museum at Bawdsey. So who do I speak to to get
permission to copy them. I was still in contact with Jan Foster
until recently. The photos actually misname Marion as her name
was Coucher, not Croucher. Dyllis Powell was a beauty. works
in London now. My tale about a certain hockey match spings to
mind as Dyllis was one of those who just shrugged off her wet
kit, dried herself off and put some decent clothes on, all in
the bus ready to drive back to camp. Lovely girl. And I think I
have mentioned Trish Hay before. TB

Terry, I think you have mentioned Trish Hay's name once or twice
before. :)
The photos are part of a Bawdsey site run by an ex-Cpl in the
Pay Accts section there in the 50s called Ray Shakeshaft. You
should be able to contact him through the site:
