Does anyone know who the current curator is at the museum as I
am going to introduce the curator at "The Secrets of Radar
Museum" here in London. This one could be on borrowed time as
their building has recently been sold, so a bit more publicity
may help.

Now that Chris is part of the museum staff, perhaps we can have
regular updates on whats going on etc generally.
Fully appreciate that the members get their own news letter etc,
a recruitment page, tit bits etc to encourage more to join.
I have been there, but extremely unlikely ever to go back .

I head off to the museum (on Oct 25th) for my initiation into
being informative to the general public.
I enjoyed the reunion last Sunday, especially the talk on the
Cold War and Neatishead's part in it - without the
techno-babble.
In theory I had been asked to do the Ops room talk, but as I
have a morbid fear of speaking in public I opted for the history
room instead. I must look to see if I can get more lead for my
chinagraphs. There used to be a console with my initials etched
onto it, but I can't find it?
Yes, I could keep this site up to date with any ADRM news as it
arises from the quarterly magazines etc!

After my initiation (back in October), I was told to wait for a
phone call.
By the end of February I had still not heard and as the museum
was advertising in the local rags for volunteers, I sent an
email to Neatishead museum curator.
A reply came after 24hrs and it was a fob off. They only had
vacancies in the canteen and were full with volunteers in all
other departments. After promising me a slot in the Cold War
room (in October, last year) I was mift that all my experience
was going to waste and formulated a reply back to them (with the
help from the missus, so not rude but scathing), basically
turning down the canteen job.
They replied stating they will keep me on the books should a
place in the Cold War room arise.
This just smacks of being back in the mob and being fobbed off
yet again. They way I feel at the moment is they can shove it
back to where the sun don't shine. I'm basically livid and don't
know what I'll do should they offer me a post?

Take it and bite your tongue, then once your feet are well under
the table get on with enjoying yourself. There are many ways of
being sarcastic to muppets, you had practice on here with the
plonker from Germany.

Hello Chris, sorry to hear of what sounds like your total rebuff
by the Air Defence Museum, however I'm afraid it is only to be
expected,- as they have moved far away from their original
purpose and become a 'young families and toddlers' Theme Park
now,- all elf and safety, with equal opportunities, and
ethnically diverse, with bat hunts, treasure hunts and
barbeques...
They are not really interested in factual details and how it
was, but more with how to attract as many visitors as possible
and obtain good ratings as a tourist attraction. For this they
do not need ex RAF personnel who served there.
I discovered this fact after attending several 'Friends Days',
and later reading the 'New' redesigned Newsletter, as I used to
be a member. Now it seems to be all about 'dumbing down' for
the benefit of people who are just casual visitors and know
nothing about Radar or its history, and indeed probably don't
care much either.
I don't pretend to know the answer, but I feel the place I used
to work in no longer exists, and that is a shame....
Regards Steve. (Neat. 1981-1986).
