Bit confused Brian. The officer I worked for was Derek Palin,
not Payne. From what I remember he was a chain smoker and lived
in a small village near RAF Cranwell, and had no interest in
sport at all. TB

Another senior moment for me. I need to pay more attention to
the spelling of names.
'Sport' Payne was not really mouch of a sportsman (although he
did play rugby and cricket), however he had a habit of calling
people sport. Interestingly if Ken McMaster is a member of
the site, then I do remember a rugby match where Ken made one of
the most calculated hospital passes to Sport

Should have gone to North Coates but swapped with somene called
Thompson(cant remember first name) and went to Breighton
instead. This would have been 1962 or 63.
The rest is history.

Sorry Chris. My spelling mistake. Flt Lt 'Ginger' Paling, not
'Sporty Payne'.
