Let me know what changes you want to make, Gordon, so I can
direct Scott to test with the same fixes.

Let me think a bit. Unless its urgent for Scott Andrew & I might
discuss before we start on Friday & make a final decision then.
Cheers
Gordon

Roger that.
And when you discuss with Andrew please make sure to have Pete's
counter spreadsheet to hand. I'd like as much as possible to
keep within the current counter limits.

I take it that Gordon and Andrew have been super-busy and unable
to comment on the campaign order of battle.

Guys, sorry. I somehow missed all these recent posts. Just let
me know what the OOB ends up being.
I have been out of town and will have visitors this weekend
somthere is no rush since I wont be getting back to WL until
another week and a half (sorry).
On that note: It looks like there are up to 8 missions in the
campaign. At my normal rate of play (I don’t have access to
Vassal) this will take me around 10 weeks to complete (assuming
a mission a week and allowing for missed weeks). Is this so long
that it will be functionally useless? If so I’ll return to
regular scenarios. It may be that I can fit in an extra mission
or two along the way but frankly this Summer has been
surprisingly difficult.

I'm not sure how useless it will be. It may depend on what comes
out of Gordon and Andrew's test. Even a half-run (4 missions)
might be useful.

We're at the end of day 1 with the revised fighter OB & out
feeling is that is working well. The recycling phase has seen 2
RAF flights left in the recovery box at the strat of day 2 with
the Axis OB trimmed by 1.5 109 squadronss, 1 Mc202 flight & 2
bomber squadrons. Bombing has been more effective (airfield went
into the night with 20 hits, although we did allow Ju 88s to
steep angle bomb to increase the potential variety of options
for the Axis) & air losses are currently at 15 Axis 12 RAF.
Overall feel is probably about right. Reducing flak
effectiveness works reasonably well & the scenario generation
system is working quickly & smoothly to generate a reasonable
amount of variety & some interesting choices. No clear killer
strategies for either side.
I haven't had a chnace to go through the counter spreadsheet &
look in detail at the counter issues with bomber squadrons Lee
mentioned on the phone but my sense is that one more Sm79
squadron instead of a Ju88 & some Italian Stukas wouldn't
unbalance things. It slightly distorts the history for OOB
aficionados but I doubt too many people will be too
concerned:-))
Once we're through I'll post some more details dthoughts but at
this stage I'm inclined to say that:
Reducing the fighter OOB is working & probably improves the
experience.
Allowing some more Axis bombing options adds interest.
I think the bomber OOB/ counter issues are solvable.
The cumulative loss effects on RAF recycling work well
The balance of incentives for both sides feels about right
No obvious killer game breaker strategies are apparent
Cheers

So, what are the OB changes? I'd like to incorporate them into
the next release.
It sounds as if you are okay with dropping 3 x Bf 109 squadrons
and 1 x Spitfire squadron. Is that correct?
What about bombers? You suggest we can add a SM-79 squadron, but
does that allow us to drop a Ju 88 squadron? And what about the
Ju 87s?
One further thing: when constructing waves, do we need a rule so
that waves cannot mix German and Italian units?

We tried dropping 3 109 squadrons & 1 Spit squadron. I need to
look carefully at the counter spreadsheet but I’d see no problem
swapping a German Stuka for an Italian. Similarly swapping a Ju
88 for an Sm79 looks OK though it’s not in our current test.

Question for Gordon: do we really need to mandate a port attack
before 1500 on Day Two? Do we not simply let the VPs be the
incentive here? The rule looks redundant to me.
