Changes have been incorporated in the latest version of the
Origins book and player aid. So anyone who wants to crack on
with campaign testing is welcome.

Sounds good Lee. I checked to see the new victory conditions and
pleased to see the Port now included. I’ll definitely be coming
back to the campaign again to test.

I know I must be overlooking something, and have only done my
first pass through of the campaign rules, but which countersheet
will provide the additional 3 squadron IDs necessary for the
109Fs? There are only 9 (A-I) provided in Victories + Blitz/c3i.
I’m not seeing them on the provisional Origins countersheet
mock-up...

Oops. You might not be overlooking anything. You might have run
into a genuine problem.
This is an issue with testing via VASSAL, which has no
countersheet limits.
Not sure how to resolve this yet. We don't really have any spare
space on the countersheet unless we cut a scenario.

A design question for Gordon, and one worth resolving before the
next round of testing gets under way.
I am loathe to cut a scenario to accomodate the German
countermix. Is there any way we can cut the number of German Bf
109F squadrons in the Malta campaign to 9, and possibly cut the
Spitfire squadrons fractionally, and still have a viable
campaign?
(For that matter, trimming the number of Ju 87 and Ju 88
squadrons fractionally would also be a help. Note that I've had
to add 4 x Ju 88 squadrons and 1 x Ju 87 squadron to the Origins
countermix support the campaign.)
It seems to me there's value in cutting to make the campaign
more resource-constrained.

Pete's counter spreadsheet is a fantastic resource for this.
I've taken to checking it whenever something sticks out, but so
far I haven't found anything missing myself.

Yes, it just annoys me that we didn't catch this earlier.
However, I'm seeing this as an opportunity to scale back the
campaign fractionally to make it more resource-constrained, and
perhaps even free up a couple of spaces on the countersheet.
I'm wondering what the effect would be of reducing the set-up as
follows;
Subtract 3 x Bf 109F squadrons
Subtract 1 x Ju 88A squadron
Subtract 1 x Ju 87 squadron
Subtract 1 Spitfire squadron

In principle I don't see any major problems with reducing the
fighter OB a bit. We're about to embark on another campaign test
& I'll think about this a it before we start on Friday. First
time through the bombers achieved relatively little, due in part
to small numbers but also to too much flak &, to a lesser
degree, fighter opposition. Toning down the flak is
straightforward & reducing the fighter to bomber ratio will
probably also increase the likelihood that the bombers will
achieve results.
My initial thoughts is that reducing fighter numbers sounds fine
but I'd incline to leave bomber numbers alone. There is also the
option of allowing more fighter recycling for the Axis (within
the campaign game day rather than only at the end of the day
though not as frequently as the RAF) as a way of stretching the
Axis fighter OB a bit. I'm sure this can be accommodated within
the existing campaign structure but not quite so sure which of
the palette of options will work best.
...and slightly counterfactually there could always be more
Italian fighters :-))
Cheers
Gordon

If we can adjust to work within the existing countermix (check
Pete's wonderful spreadsheet for this) then i'm good. I just
don't want to make any changes to the current Origins
countersheet, except to free up spaces.
I never have a problem with more Italians. (Though again, be
careful as they might lack the necessary number of flight
counters.)
