v0.7
Player: Elias Nordling (solo)
In my third playthrough, the Nationalists really got some good
rolls in air combat, racking up an impressive kill ratio, and
the Republicans failed to react the bombers. Bombing did not go
well, only the Ro.37 got 2 hits in on the flak, while 2 Ju52s
were lost to flak fire.
Final score:
Nationalists:
2 points bombing, 11 fighters: 13
Republicans: 2 Ju52, 3 CR.32: 7
Total: 6 Nationalist victory
Felt like: Nationalist victory
Comment: The Republican losses felt like an outlier, but so did
the bombing results. Regardless, this result was probably better
than what the Nationalists could hope for. I still think having
1 point per bombing hit on the city is a good idea. We might not
have to switch the score around but I think the victory levels
should certainly be adjusted downwards, so that a modest bombing
result of 2-3 points and an even result in air combat is a
Nationalist win. I'll let you do the math.
Assuming you adjust the scoring, I'm ready to sign off on this
one.

So, my take on the scoring based on Elias’s tests of v0.7:
Nationalist Bombing = 2, 5 + 6 + 2 = 5 VP
Nationalist air victories = 7 + 5 + 11 = 7.6 VP
Republican victories vs bombers = 3 + 2 + 2 = 4.6 VP
Republican victories vs fighters = 13 + 7 + 3 = 7.6 VP
This gives us a mean of 12.6 - 12.2 - 0.4
I’m not sure how to adjust the score downwards. I’m very
resistant to having scoring ranges that have negative VP, and
the scores are currently already rock bottom.
Going with 1 VP per point of bombing hits on the city might work
to give a more fine-grained result.

Making it 2 points per bombing hit on the city might solve your
problem of keeping the score in the positive.

Can you list how many actual hits, rather than VPs, you scored
against the Factory in each play?

I think I did. 2, 4 and 0. Also, 1, 0 and 2 against the flak.
I just realized doubling points for bombing brings back the turn
1 win risk again.

Let's try doubling the VPs on the factory. Is not the turn 1
loss risk part-mitigated by the no-aim penalty?

You're right, the Ro37 can score 2 hits at best on the factory.

I want to sign off on Target: Madrid, but I'm not quite there
yet. I've always liked this scenario. Pluses: It's winnable by
either side and allows for various gambits, especially for the
Republicans, who have to decide where to put the weight of their
effort. Drawbacks: It's swingy, and things can turn weird, as in
less competitive and less fun, if the interceptors go off the
rails early because of blown tally attempts or even slightly
worse than average cohesion dicerolls.
Let me take another whack at this one, v0.9, and get back to you
all.

Is there any way we can stop this going off the rails early?
