Okay, I'm holding off on making changes at the moment. The long
and the short of it is that I don't have counter space for two
He 51 squadrons at the moment, and we need the existing three He
51 flights for the German tourists scenario.
I'm not sure what can be done at the moment without reducing the
number of new bomber counters required for the Malta scenario.
I'll have a chat with Gordon about this.

I'm still waiting on resolving the campaign countermix issues
before making a call on how to adjust this scenario.

Okay, having adjusted the countermix to accommodate two He 51
squadrons, I have now updated this scenario and you'll see the
changes in the next release.

Scenario: O16 Target: Madrid
Version: 0.6
Playtesters: Chris Bryans (Solo)
Report: This is my third playtest of this scenario.
Summary:
No height changes on turn one
Victory:
Nationalists: 4+ 6 (bombing result)=10
Republicans: 5 + 4 bombers=9
10-9=1 Republican victory
In this scenario, I decided to swing the Nationalists in the
direction of their home base immediately after bombing to force
the Republicans to chase them. In the meantime, the Chirris were
to keep the I15s and I16s busy, a move which the Republicans
were all too eager to oblige. The Republican strategy was to
give the sweep Chirris a severe mauling, give the flak a chance
to whittle the bombers away, and then to chase them back to
their bases once the flak ceased fire. The change in heavy flak
from an A to a D made barrage flak almost a must. The
Republican strategy worked as two bombers were downed and two
bombers were disrupted and had to turn back per scenario
instructions.
This brings me to a point about the scenario conditions. All
the Republican player needs to do is exactly what I did and they
will achieve victory unless the bombing scores were radically
different. Gordon’s bombing average correlated (6) with my last
two playtests. As long as the Republican player plays it safe,
it shouldn’t be too hard to achieve victory.
I wonder then if the VP should be pulled slightly downward to
penalize the Republican player from playing it safe and letting
the flak do most of the work while mauling the Chirris with
superior numbers. I even had veterans in two of the bombers
which helped on one occasion by bringing the score from 10% to
25%.
-1 or less Republican victory
0-3 Draw
4 or more Nationalist victory
In game turns, I’m just not sure what could motivate the
Republican player to negotiate all that flak to intercept the
bombers or their escort. Not quite sure I’m ready to sign off
on this one.

I'm just trying to interpret your AAR. So if the problem here
that the flak won the day and the Republicans didn't feel it
necessary to get stuck into the bombers?

Right. If the Republicans ganged up on the two CR32 squadrons,
they would outnumber them considerably and rack up points as
they whittle them down. Meanwhile, the flak takes care of the
rest without the need for fighter intervention. At least, that
is how it could occur.
Would it be wise to penalize the Republican player for failing
to intercept the bombers?
I'd be interested in how some others look at the situation.
There may be something here that I am not seeing.

I think I may need to get Elias's beady eye on this one.

After looking at the numbers, i'm going to adjust the draw
window down and narrow the window. The Republicans will need to
increase their VP output.
I'm not sure if that will fix it. I think it will be useful for
Elias to take a look.

I have just started playing the scenario, so it's too early to
say, but as I see it there is no reson for the repubicans NOT to
attack the bombers, as they are easy points and having a bomber
in the fight ensures that you are the attacker. Further, the
CR.32:s can easily tally the I15s which are a large formation,
and then use the freedom of movement to avoid the I16s.
In fact, I see a potential bug-out strategy for the
Nationalists. If the Ro37 scores well on the factory on turn 1,
the Nationalists have 6 points right there. They can then return
to base with everyone and exit without the Republicans being
able to catch them.
One possible solution would be to force the Ro37 to bomb the
Flak. That way it can't score enough for a win on turn 1.
