In short. Andres García Lacalle was the top republican Ace in
march 1937. After the arrival of modern soviet airplanes and
soviet pilots, he was the first spanish commanding one squadron
of figthers. the First Squadron of I-15 called Escuadrlla
Lacalle. At the time of battle of Guadalajara he had 11 kills
confirmed. He was the official hero of Republican Air Force

Interesting. Thanks for the history lesson. I know very little
about the SCW and I'm enjoying playing these scenarios.
It'd cool if La Calle cold be represented in the scenario
somehow; a cohesion or bombing modifier in his honor maybe. At
the very least, it'd be good to write La Calle into the scenario
aftermath. I assume he flew as part of this battle.

Forgot to mention in my AAR that the CR32s were using their edge
bonus in all their combats. If I recall, Edge scored an
additional hit or two.

I need to go through your AAR carefully, but some hot takes:
--- Quote from: Al Cannamore link ---
> Use a SSR to add small arms to all the targets. At least make
the Republican's sweat a bit and to negate that no flak mod.
--- End Quote ---
Agreed. I think this doesn't affect the bombing so much as
strafing, but it's a good idea.
--- Quote from: Al Cannamore link ---
> If the Nationalists go for the left force of Republican's,
they are out numbered and out positioned. They're also defending
the lowest VP targets on the map. I don't see a reason why you
would do this.
--- End Quote ---
I think that's an error. Having run the math, the most lucrative
target on the map for the leftmost group is the trucks, because
it's so easy to ramp up multiples of two hits. I would
personally defend the trucks if possible. Yes, the trains are
worth more, but they are also further away for the R-Zs and
I-15s. I think there's a tradeoff for trying to concentrate on
the trains.

So, the current list of proposed changes for this are:
(1) Cut the following targets: Troops in L0, Artillery in M0,
Supply in T0
(2) Add S0 small arms barrage to all targets
(3) Change the rightmost Nationalist set-up column from S to T,
which should increase the chance of a turn 1 tally on the SBs.
(4) I will combine SSRs 2 and 3 into one, so as to save space

Dear all,
I tested the scenario with the modification suggested by Lee.
Version: 1
Mode: solitarie
AAR: again the Cr32s divided with one squadron against the SB
and the other one in the west trying to cover the troops and
train.
The East squadron tallied the Sb on first turn, divided in two
flights and dove on the SB claiming 3 of them before thay can
bomb the train.
The SBs, surely distracted by the fighters attack, level bombed
the train with no resulting hits at all.
On the east, the CR32 squadron managed to avoid detection and
attacked the leading I-15 fighter bomber squadron. Bad choice as
it is the
La Salle squadron that even with bombs aboard managed to react
effectively shooting down 3 CR 32s!.
The La Salle sqdn dropped its bombs and tried to doghfight the
Italians. The Italians flle from the battlefield stunned by the
Ace ability and left thei
poor troops without proper support allowing the Republicans to
heavily damage the trucks (4 hits by an RZ squandrons glide
bombing) and damage troops
(2 hits, 1 from bombing and one from strafing) and Train (2
hists from strafing) at ease
RESULTS:
Nationalist: 5 SB shot down x 10 VP, 1 RZ shot down x 1 VP, 2
I-15 shot down x 2 VP, 1 I-16 shot down x 1 VP. TOTAL: 14 VP
Republicans: 6 CR32 shot down x 6 VP, 2 Hits on troop x 1 VP, 4
Hit on trucks x 8 VP, 2 HIT on train x 5 VP. TOTAL 20 VP
With +6 Republicans VP this is stilla Nationalist victory

Great AAR! Two observations:
It looks as if the turn 1 tally on the SBs paid dividends for
the Nationalists. i suspect that made a huge difference and
allowed a lot of SBs to be shot down.
Two more hits on the trucks would have made a huge difference to
the Republicans and almost salvaged a draw.
I think we need more data from playings with the proposed
changes. I'll implement these in the next release.

Dear Lee,
you are right. I will try to replay the scenario today but with
different tactic.
I plan to use both Nationalist squadrons to attack the SBs,
those big bombers are as only marginally more difficoult to kill
as the RZ
(3/4 defence against 3) but with 2 VP each they are a big prey
to hunt for the Nationalist.
As for the republicans, I will try to use steep angle bombing
profile with the I-15 fighter bombers. Here I have the doubt
about the weather
modifier for the broken clouds over the target.
The rule (4.7) strictly says that the modifier applies "based on
the weather flown througth during the bombing profile or
affecting the line
of sigth to the target at the moment the bombs drop". In
looking at the train in S0 with a broken cloud marker over it in
S2, I suppose that
a fighter bomber starting in R4, could make a steep dive bombing
flying in R3,R2, S1 and dropping bombs in S1 without being
affected by the brokenc clouds
in S2. The same coul not be attempted on the troops in O0 as
the dense clouds in O2 block lOS at the beginning of the dive.
Please check my bombing profile and let me know if I am right. I
remembered reading in the rules that LOS is not affected if it
passes through a corner of
a "square" so I suppose my assumptions are right but I am not
totally sure about it.
