Scenario: O19 Chirris Over Brunette
Version: 0.5
Playtesters: Scott Key, solitaire
September 7, 2019
Report: - The game had quite a few really high rolls during
combat so it skewed on the bloody side. These tended to be
rolled slightly more by the Republicans but not enough so that I
think it upset the balance.
- The lower interceptors were vectored to intercept from below
the bombers in order to reduce the chance of being tallied. The
higher interceptors were Veteran and assigned the expertes. The
top I-16 Sqn was veteran.
Turns1-3: - No tallies initially but then the first bombers were
attacked. An RZ was lost along with an I-15. The Italians
disrupted however
- in the next turns combat the Cr.32 sqn breaks.
- The lower sweep sqn tallied the Cr.32 flight but was tallied
in turn by the upper Cr.32 Sqn. They mixed it up with one I-16
straggling. A dogfight starts.
Turns 4-6: - The I-15 former escorts pursue the broken Fiat sqn
down to the deck. No hits are inflicted and the Republican sqn
breaks. Both sides escape.
- The dogfight moves down and away from the bombers. Each unit
involved takes a loss (2 Cr.32s and 1 I-16). The I-16 sqn breaks
and is allowed to escape. The Cr.32 Veteran sqn is disrupted.
- The last Cr.32 interceptor sqn attacks the leading RZ sqn with
a late reaction from the escorts. No hits are scored, the escort
sqn disrupts and a dogfight starts.
- The escorts then break after 2 rounds of dogfighting.
- The dogfight continues with the Cr.32 veteran flight tallying
it and diving towards it. Both sqns take another loss and the
I-15s lose a straggler.
- The Veteran I-16 sweep FINALLY tallies the Cr.32 flight below
and behind it. It free moves into a climb as the higher Cr.32
sqn has tallied it. The Fiat flight tallies the higher I-16 sqn
and goes into a Lufbery hoping to bait the enemy down.
Turn 7-9: - The lower interceptor sqn tallies and attacks the
trailing bombers. They inflict two losses and a straggler on the
RZs while taking one loss themselves and then breaking. The
bombers exit unharassed and in good order as the remaining Fiat
flight never manages to tally them.
- The I-16 veterans and Cr.32 veteran sqn mix it up for two
turns with the Italian volunteers losing 3 losses and a
straggler (leaving only two aircraft in the formation at games
end). The Soviet volunteers lose one plane and voluntarily
return-to-base in the last turn since the Republicans were
winning. Why risk losing another round of combat?
Victory: Republicans
Republicans: +7 vp fighters downed, +12 vp good order bombers
exited= +19
Nationalists: -4 vp fighters downed, -3 vp bombers downed
Total: +13 vp
Recommendations: - the scenario felt pretty well balanced. It
was very possible that one of the bomber sqns could have been
disrupted dropping the game to a draw...
- signing off on it. (See below)
— [s]HOWEVER after reading the previous comments by Elias and
Lee I would say that, in the context of other plays, the draw
windiw should be 9. I would be happy to give it another go with
the added Cr.32 unit if necess[/s]ary.

Thanks, Scott. I don't want to touch the order of battle unless
absolutely necessary. No further orbat changes for now.
I'm not clear what you mean by the draw window being 9, since
the current window is +8 to +10.

So let me restate myself:
The game, as played, felt pretty balanced so I’m happy to sign
off on it.

0.5
Player: Elias Nordling (solo)
This game had some weird tally rolls, with only one fighter
tallying a bomber turn 1, and one I16 missing the battle
entirely. On the other hand, a lot of Nationalist fighters quit
early. The Nationalists still had some success against the
bombers, causing 2 casualties on each. One bomber squadron was
disrupted which was fair, it could as well have been both. The
Nationalists were lucky to not take more fighter losses than
they did considering the number of fights against the odds they
had.
Final score:
Republicans:
Exit 9, 2 Nationalist fighters: 11
Nationalists: 4 bombers, 2 fighters: 6
Total: 5
Nationalist victory
Felt like: Nationalist victory
Comment: I feel that, a bit like in Laureate Crosses, most of
the advantages are on the Republican side, but why complain, the
Nationalists won this time anyway, both a game victory and what
felt like a real life victory. So I'm signing off on this one,
which i believe also means it can be marked as done.
