Thanks, Chris. Yes, by ‘veterans’ I meant assigning one from the
existing counter pool.
I’ll mark this as having your signoff.

..or Allan Galland-The Early Years:-))
Andrew as the Republicans & I have given this a run through &
we're happy with it.
Tidy Republican victory. 4 He 111s down on the first head on
passes from the (very) Super Moscas, with flak claiming another
2 and a recce Dornier. 7 fighters lost on each side & another
bomber lost in scattered engagements with the dice still going
the Republicans way. Even Allan's late intervention scoring 2
kills for no losses before deciding to run away rather than
protect the bombers from the last enemy fighter squadron failed
to turn the tide....
No hits on the bridge. 5 VP for the remaining (broken by flak
after taking the photos) Dornier photos of the intact bridge.
Not a good day for General Franco with 8 bomber & 7 fighter
losses against only 7 fighter losses for the Republicans.
That said the scenario works. Dice were lopsided but no real
suggestions apart from changing the Heavy flak A to the less
fearsome D. It is a good scenario & fits the overall narrative
well. The Supermoscas & the 109s are clearly the wave of the
future but on the rare occasions where the edgy Cr32s can
initiate a dogfight they can still make a difference.
Suggest changing Heavy falk D to A but otherwise we're happy to
sign off.
Cheers
Gordon

What do Chris and Elias think about defanging the heavy flak
from A to D? Is it necessary?

Well, we already did two de-fangs, from B to A, then a special
rule that it can only fire barrage. This might have been before
we included a Barrage D in the countermix. Unless I'm missing
something, a Flak A and a Flak D firing barrage only are
identical, so either I AM missing something, or Gordon missed
that special rule.
That said, changing the Flak A to a Flak D accomplishes the same
thing with one less special rule, so I'm all for switching to
Flak D and removing special rule 6.

Surely rule 6 should still be applied if we change to a D,
otherwise the heavy flak could, in theory, use direct fire.

Yes, but if it can only direct fire at one target at a time it
is effectively de-fanged one step from flak A, which was the
purpose of my rule suggestion for rule 6. Either solution is
fine with me.

What was the original purpose of rule 6? Was it designed to
make the Republican leader think twice about attacking bombers
in flak zones? It certainly influenced my thinking in that
regard.
If this were the case, I would keep it.
Historically, did flak doctrine in the Spanish Civil War specify
more barrage and less DF?

The suggestion was mine, simply because too many bombers were
lost to flak. I thi k there is a certain versimilitude in having
barrage only for more primitive times, but since this isn't
something WL goes into, it does seem a bit off to have it in one
scenario only
