       Orders
By: Elias Nordling Date: January 3, 2019, 3:56 am

Can you give orders on more than one occasion during the Tally
Phase, or does all orders have to be given at the same time?
Specifically, I want to roll for tally against one formation,
distribute orders on that formation, then roll for tallies on a
second formation, then distribute orders on that formation,
alternating orders from the same wing commander and tallies.
I think the answer is yes.

I think the answer is 'yes' too. But how do we communicate this?

Not sure if any clarification is needed. If the answer was no,
       it would have been.

Today I'm out of commission as my study is being recarpeted.
However, I'll try to take a look at this over the weekend and
see if the text needs any reinforcement.
If you have any suggestions I'm all ears.

I'm a little confused about orders too. I'm playtesting Origins
       Heavy Mob.
Can a Wing leader tally a target, order a wing 's three
squadrons to split (including his own) into six flights and
order each of those flights to intercept a different target?
If not, do those flights vector to a certain point predesignated
by the Wing Leader before his tally?

Okay, so let's walk through this, and then you tell me what the
       rules draft is unclear on.

Absolutely, yes. 9.5.5 says that the wing leader can give orders
to any number of squadrons in the wing; an order can result in a
split; the order can tally a single target, or another target in
       the same formation.

Bear in mind that the wing leader tallying breaks up the wing.
This means that according to 9.5.3, any squadron or flight not
given an order 9.5.3 places a Vector marker in the square
previously occupied by the wing leader's Vector marker.
Is that clear? If not, what could we do to clarify it?

No, most of it seems to be pretty clear. What confused me a
little was 9.5.5.1 (4) which states that the wing leader may
only split his own squadron. This seems to imply that he may
not order the rest to split. Am I misinterpreting it?

No you're not. 9.5.5 is the default rule, which was what I
responded to above. 9.5.5.1 is the modifying rule to deal with
the lack of radios, and so restricts player options.
I'm not sure how to make that more clear than it already is,
       though I'm open to suggestion.

No, it's fine. I failed to note the rule in its context.

As I am planning on creating a good amount of YouTube content
for Wing Leader upon my receiving new 2nd edition, I am wanting
to dedicate at least 1 video to this topic. A LOT OF PEOPLE
(including myself) have spent a lot of time trying to figure out
what Wings can/cannot do. I've always underestimated what they
can do and I think many people do as well. Providing a lot of
examples as to what they can/can't do is what I am hoping to
accomplish with at least one video on the topic.
       Pete
