AT Pods are air to Ground but Gun Pods are primarily AtA, so
maybe they belong to different categories?

I don't think I want to make that distinction. In theory Gun
Pods could be used on a Bf 109G which is given a strafing
mission. Since we upgunned the gun pods this is actually a
       viable option.

A fighter-bomber that drops its bombs becomes a fighter, but
what about a fighter with gun pods? Obviously with the current
suggested rule it can start as a fighter or fighter-bomber
depending on the mission, but is there any way for a fighter
bomber with gun pods to revert to being a fighter?
I think it could tally and change mission to sweep, but then
there is no mechanism that would allow it to return to strafing,
which might be OK. But this case definitely need to be firmed
       up.

Ugh. Why do I get the impression that covering these edge cases
will only create confusion, not help.
There are times I wish we did not have strafing in the game at
       all.

I distinctly remember saying a couple of times during
playtesting "change the mission of that FB without bombs from
strafe to sweep or you'll open a can of worms". It seems that
       can has opened anyway :-)

True, but you can jig it a bit by choosing which column to
initiate a dive bombing from. But safe to say it is not an
       actual problem.

I respect and defer to your extensive experience with the game
Elias. I value what I’ve learned from you and Dave.

So, pods and the Strafing mission. Let’s break down the possible
       edge cases:
       (1) Ju 87G. Dive bomber with AT Pods and no bombs. Not really
incompatible with the rules at present.
       (2) Hurricane IID. Fighter class with AT pods. Strictly speaking
this is a fighter-bomber under the current rules, but it should
not have an air-to-air role. This is an edge case and should be
treated as a light bomber for all intents and purposes.
       (3) Bf 109G, K; Fw 190A-8, F-8. Fighter class that can carry
bombs but in theory could choose to carry Gun Pods instead. This
is the big potential problem. Not sure how to deal with this,
other than to perhaps treat them as Sweeps rather than strafers.

So, I wonder whether I need to add some kind of fighter-bomber
exception rule to handle these two situations with the Hurricane
and German fighters. This would have to be in the sidebar, of
course, because there’s nowhere to put it. The text could be
       along these lines:
Fighter-Bombers. These are two exceptions to the rules on
       fighter-bombers:
Hurricane IID. The Hurricane IID squadrons assigned a Strafing
mission do not change their mission to Sweep at any point.
Bf 109G, K and Fw 190A, F. If a squadron of these aircraft is
assigned a Strafing mission but carries Gun Pods as its weapon
load, change its mission at set-up to Sweep.

For the last line how about: Squadrons equipped with Gun Pods
are not Fighter Bombers and cannot be assigned to a Strafing
       Mission.

I'm guessing the situation we look at is when we have a scenario
with German FBs that might want to equip with gun pods instead
of bombs. This is not something I have thought of, but it is not
a bad idea. I think Across the Oder is such a scenario.
Interestingly, I never thought of this gambit for Death of 1 JG
       either.
Without having checked, I'm not even sure if the current printed
rules disallow having gun pods and bombs at the same time.
Ideally, this could have been handled by scenario instructions
for the few scenarios where it can happen, and you could make a
note for it in the errata if you want to. Given this, I think
it's fair that it is a play note and not an actual rule.
