Is the new Japanese G3M2 and G4M1 counters (Origins) going to be
labeled G3M/G4M on the counter as shown in the WL_Exp_counters_F
pdf? Or will they be labeled G3M2/G4M1 as the Victories counters
are labeled G4M1?

Um, I'm unsure. Strictly speaking I wish the G4M counters in
Victories were marked as such, rather than G4M1. Not sure what
to do about that. Changing the base counters is a massive can of
worms.

So the problem is this:
(1) The update kit is premised on the idea that we are giving
the players all the new stuff.
(2) So the update kit includes Countersheet 4, but NOT
countersheets 1 to 3, because nothing has changed with those.
(3) This means we have to be careful changing anything on
countersheets 1 to 3, because the people who update via the
update kit will complain they didn't get NEW STUFF, and do so in
that shrill, accusatory tone that makes it plain you have done
the equivalent of murdering their dog and pissing on their
parents' graves. IT IS A CRIME!
(4) So, I have to be resistant to changing the original
counters, so as to avoid a lot of drama.
(5) Which leads to the question: how much can I change on the
old counters to bring them into line with the new? Or do I need
to make the new counters align with the old?

I would think that a change from G4M1 to G4M is not that big of
a deal. I mean I can see if you updated the counter art that
people might get up in arms. But if you fix what is more or less
a type, that is to be expected in a 2nd edition. I should think
it fine to change 2nd Edition counters to G4M since those
counters can be used for G4M variants.

The Finnish D.XXI squadron A shows as a flight counter on the
WL_Exp3_counters_F.pdf (single silhouette).
The three German 109D flights show as squadrons and the 109D
squadron shows as a flight on this countersheet as well. To
follow your current pattern, I'm assuming that "E" should be the
single squadron and "F-H" should be the three flight counters.
Correct?

Oops, yes, the Finnish D.XXIs need to be a squadron. Good catch!
And yes, I need to change three of those Bf 109Ds to flights.
Your suggestion is sound.
A good thing I do this countersheet exercise, otherwise nasty
errors creep in.

I'd qualify this as a semi-massive can of worms only. ;)
After reading Pete's opinion, I think he's right: what we're
talking about here is, basically, correcting a typo; the artwork
would not change, after all.
I'm afraid that you're right when you say that someone is bound
to be pissed off and scream bloody murder, though. In this case,
you could always gently point out that he bought the game for
the nice artwork on the counters, not the tiny scriptures on
them...
I don't envy your position. But I also remember that in a
not-so-distant past, you decided to depict nice,
happy-parent-and-kid silhouettes on the targetting maps of
Bomber Command and told the critics to look elsewhere (or was it
to fuck off?) if they did not like it.... Chin up, man, we know
you can take it!
(Beside, as a latecomer to the game, *I* want my shiny new
Victories 2nd Ed. counters to be the way they should be. ;D )

You know, if you go this way, you should also take a look at the
B5N2 and D3A1 counters... Just sayin'.

Bear in mind that when you go down this route there's a lot of
fallout. It's not just fixing typos on counters, but all the
instances of that counter in the scenarios must be updated.

Pete, that's fantastic proofing on the Origins counters. You
caught so many things! I've just posted an update to the Origins
folder on dropbox.
Note that I've chickened out on the G4M1. I'd rather keep as-is
than deal with the ballache of a change.
