Announcement
Okay, so it's been quite a grind to update the ADC variant
information to the new standardised format. I have just posted
up the latest files of all the ADCs and now need the following
help:
(2) Vincent. Vincent, it's likely that the update may have
introduced new errors. Could you do me the favour of
re-reviewing the Victories and Eagles ADC variant
information?
Of course.
[quote author=Lee Brimmicombe-Wood link=topic=37.msg1582#msg1582
date=1549709617](3) What ADC Do I Use? I need a volunteer to
compare the variant information for the Victories and Eagles
ADCs with the What ADC Do I Use? tables on the back of the
Victories scenario book and the Eagles book, and ensure they
align.
Was planning to do that as part of my Eagles and Victories
proofing passes. I can do it firsthand for both books if you
want.

I'm doing a pass on the What ADC Do I Use? myself. I should be
posting up current versions of the Eagles and Victories scenario
book later today, so you may want to hold off until I announce
these uploads.

Okay, new versions of the Victories scenario book and the Eagles
book--both dated 09Feb19--have been posted, so they are ready
for proofing.
I have done a pass on the What ADC Do I Use? sections, but this
needs another look, with reference to the updated ADCs I posted
earlier today.

Lee,
Seeing how, from your own admission, incorporating the latest
ADC feedback was a grind, I'd rather check with you before
spending time on my next proofing of the cards. Would you rather
just have me check that nothing got lost in the variant info
rewrite, or are you open to suggestions like the ones below?
I can find a number of ways to shorten the variant info. For
example:
"TBM 3 Improved variant, in service from mid-44. In British
service this was the Avenger Mk.III"
could become
"TBM 3 Improved variant, in service mid-44. Named Avenger Mk.III
in British service"
----------------------------------------
Or, I'd find it clearer to gather at the start of the variant
section the info about variants with no rating changes (and
deleting the ADC name before "This card depicts", since it
refers to the very ADC the player is holding and which bears the
same name...), then list the ones with rating modifications in
service introduction order. For example:
"SBD-3 This card also depicts later variants including the SBD-4
and SBD-5, as well as the A-24 Banshee land-based Army Air Force
variant"
could become
"This card also depicts later variants including the SBD-4 and
SBD-5, as well as the land-based Army Air Force A-24 Banshee"
This info would then be followed by the SBD-1, SBD-2 variant
info, which include rating changes.
----------------------------------------
Please let me know how you feel about it.

Some quick thoughts:
(1) I'm all for shortening variant info, particularly if it is a
crowded card. One thing I will say is that regularising the text
can create problems, due to the font justification. (Remember,
the text is laid out in Adobe Illustrator.) Occasionally, I
might have to leave the text as-is, or even add words, to
prevent the justification being too ugly.
(2) Point taken on the inclusion of the aircraft name on the
default 'no change' paragraph. That might also solve the problem
of placing that paragraph in name order, freeing us up to place
it first. So yes, let's go with your scheme.

Point taken in the font justification potential issue. I was
suspecting it could be an issue; I'll go on with the proofing,
then. You'll do as you please with the suggested changes.
Last big proofing pass!
(Heretical thought: Did you ever consider NOT justifying the
variant text? This would allow getting rid of the ugly-looking
big spaces between words. I read as well text justification
really hampers dyslexic readers... you might gain fame as a
dyslexic-friendly game designer, in addition to being the only
one to use Queen's English in your games ;) )

Lee,
Here is my feedback about the Victories and Eagles "What ADC Do
I Use?" sections.
Hope the attachment works and is ok with you.

Lee,
Did you consider the "heretical thought" in my post just above?

I'm thinking on it. I worry that it introduces a different kind
of ugliness, so I may have to try it first.
