Re: Lee's Diary

I know that Andrew and Gordon have Rocket Men in their sights
for testing soon. So with that in mind I'd appreciate any final
feedback on the following two changes, before I pull the
trigger:
(1) The changes to the Me 163 operation, as discussed in the ADC
thread. (Basically, removing one throttle setting and adjusting
a combat value.) [Update: I'll need to adjust the Rocket Men
scenario to account for reduced fuel.]
(2) Doubling the bombing mods for flight/disruption and broken,
as discussed in the rules thread.

The Rocket Men discussion has expanded to include the need for a
bespoke take-off rule for the Me 163s.
[Note to self. The proposed rejig will require us to delay Me
163 launch turns in the Rocket Man scenario by 1]

So, I’m considering adopting the following rule changes:
(1) Remove the low throttle setting from the Me 163 rules and
refactor the fuel levels accordingly.
(2) Doubling the bombing mods for flight/disruption and broken.
(3) Changing take off rules so that map placement takes place in
the Set-up Phase—otherwise the rule remains unchanged.
(4) Adding bespoke takeoff rule for Me 163s so that they can
move in the turn they are placed on the map.
(5) Removing the standoff attack combat modifier.
Any last thoughts before I post up new rules and player aids?

Okay, there’s a bumper crop of stuff just been uploaded to
dropbox. Please grab it. The stuff to need to note:
WL: Victories ADCs - Minor changes to Ki-43-I ADC
WL: Eagles ADCs - Updates to Hs 129 ADC (protection) and Me 163
ADC (throttle)
Victories Rulebook - Rule changes as described in previous post
Victories Player Aids - Changes as described in previous post
Victories Scenario Book - Changes to ADC listing and rule change
listing
Finally, a new Eagles book, dated 18 Nov 18, replaces the
previous 11 Nov 18 one. The primary changes since the last
release are:
E10 Rocket Men - Minor revisions to reflect changes to Me 163
rules
E22 Mediterranean Melee - Change to set-up to permit earlier
interception of bombers

Okay, I’ve an apology. I hadn’t intended things to work this
way, but just a week after I updated the rulebook on dropbox,
I’ve updated it again. This includes the past week’s rules
edits—the general trim and a shave. . . I'll try not to update
again for a bit.
In summary, I’ve updated as follows:
Victories Rulebook - New edit with minor changes as described in
the rules edit thread
Victories Player Aids - Minor changes to the reverse of the
bombing card, to keep up to date
Victories Scenario Book - Changes to rule change listing
As there’s been so little testing on Eagles I haven’t updated
that file today.

As an FYI, I have also updated the Scenario Design notes to v1.6
on dropbox. The main changes here are an overall edit of the
text, and the addition of the Bulgarians and Finns to the
aircrew quality notes.

So, we haven’t had the Eagles book updated for two weeks, so
it’s time for a new one. I’ve replaced the 11 Nov 18 one with a
new 3 Dec 18 one.
The primary changes since the last revision:
E04 Schlachtflieger - One Yak-9 squadron has been restored
E05 Over the Oder - Victory conditions have been adjusted
E07 Red Star, Blue Swastika - Adjustment to victory conditions;
reduced VP for Pe-2 losses
E10 Rocket Men - Adjustment to victory conditions; small
adjustment to set up
E21 Operation Tungsten - Doubled strafing firepower vs flak; all
bombers carry SAP bombs
E22 Mediterranean Melee - Changes to CAP set-up (CAP has changed
to intercept and set up further left); tac flexibility is now
assigned to Veterans rather than the Americans

Unless I get playtest reports today/tomorrow morning, there
won’t be any major changes to the Eagles scenarios this week,
save for some victory and pilot quality tweaks to Red Star, Blue
Swastika.
Note that my current plan is to try and wind up testing on the
game around Christmas. Any testing after that will only be on
particularly problematic scenarios. At Christmas I want to be
able to say to GMT that the expansion is ready to print and
start talking production/release schedules.
After that, I’d like to give everyone a rest and then in the new
year start moving on to the third expansion.

As I didn't do a rules release last weekend, I want to try and
get everything in order this weekend, and provide a test status
update as well as an Eagles rules release.
A quick announcement: in the next week I will be going to GMT to
tell them that Eagles is complete and we are ready to publish.
Note that this doesn't mean test has quite finished. Over the
next week I want to evaluate what we have and identify the
handful of scenarios that are desperate for attention and spend
a few weeks focusing on those. However, I really want to put the
module to bed early in the new year and move on. This means that
scenarios will go out in whatever state they are in at that
moment.
We're getting to the point where we have to push product out the
door, and I'm satisfied we've done due diligence on the content
we have. I'd like a last push on the problem scenarios and then
say we are done.
