Announcement!
Okay, a day earlier than expected, this is the bit where the
klaxons are honking and all hands race on deck.
I’ve just posted the first draft of Wing Leader: Origins to the
dropbox. it is accompanied by a player aid for the Malta
Spitfires campaign.
DO NOT PLAYTEST YET!
I want folks to download and read the new material. I want
initial feedback on what’s there, including any problems people
have spotted. I also need time to set up the test
infrastructure, such as a new tracking spreadsheet and new
playtest folders. I will also want to deprecate the old test
folders to an archive. So give me a week at least.
Before we start anything, I also want a conversation about the
testing workload. In addition to the Malta mini-campaign there
are a LOT of scenarios to test. If we test at the rate of WL:
Eagles we are going to need some 210+ playings for the scenarios
alone. So I kinda need everyone on board with this.
Are you happy with the content? Is there anything you feel could
be shaved from the package? Are you in?

Cool! I've read through about half the scenarios, and spotted a
few language issues that I noted. I'm especially happy that
there are no less than 3 Polish scenarios. Hard to say if there
are scenarios that can be cut before one have tested. The
Singapore scenario caught my eye as somewhat generic and
possibly lopsized but you never know, and it had some
under-utilized Japanese aircraft.

Please send me any text errors and problems you have found.
There are some scenarios that, I admit, are there purely to fill
gaps in the timeline. The Dunkirk scenario brings nothing new,
other than we don’t have a Dunkirk scenario and I thought it
neat to have one. To a certain extent the Malta campaign does
the same, as there’s no new aircraft content there, but it fills
a gap.
The Singapore scenario is an excuse to have Dutch ‘light’
Buffalos (the new ADC) as well as the Ki-30, so its function is
more firmly rooted in the new aircraft content.
Three scenarios was as much as I could wring out of the Poles.
Maybe someone with access to better sources can do more, but I
think this gives us coverage.

It’s worth saying that if we are concerned with the workload, an
option with scenarios is always to drop them from the package
with a view to publishing them later online as a free download.

A few “nothing new” scenarios is not a bad thing. Sometimes
people just want to play a certain campaign (Dunkirk, for
example), nationality or type of scenario ((Carrier attacks or
scenarios with B-17s); as long as the scenario is solid should
be good enough if there is room.

Please Read:
Again, please don't begin test until I have everything set up
and ready to go. For this next week I would like from you ALL:
(1) Any final tests and feedback on Eagles, before we put her to
bed.
(2) Your feedback on the Origins package--the scenarios,
campaign and everything. Tell me of any issues, typos,
inaccuracies, whatever.
(3) Are you guys happy with the amount of content in the Origins
package, or are there any scenarios you think could be dropped
to make the test more manageable?
(4) Any other comments/queries on the third expansion before we
start work?
Please don't be silent. Comment, even if it is to say 'No
problemo, I'm okay with this'.

Looked through the whole document. Looks good. Nothing stands
out really . . . except exciting new content.

First impression wise - strong points are very exotic aircraft &
interesting scenarios (the writing is exciting in several spots,
including Malta). I'm only about half through - spotted a
couple little things. Amount of content is good - seems
appropriate for a big box expansion. I haven't considered the
amount of cardboard, ADCs, counters, ect.

Fortunately, all the ADCs and counters fit into five ADCs sheets
and one countersheet. I posted my breakdown upthread here:
HTML https://airbattle.createaforum.com/general-discussion/wing-leader-origins-(expansion-3)/?message=797
However, I will say that the one scenario I'm unsure about is
O26 Forgotten Planes, which features the He 112. My issue with
this is that it's very small and is a pure fighter scenario
(which we've had trouble with in the past). As a consequence the
scenario might not work. If it turns out that it's not working,
I might drop it completely.
If I drop Forgotten Planes, my backup plan is to change O25 The
Great Raid back to its original configuration. In the original
historical set-up, the two Ki-21 bomber squadrons were actually
a Ki-21 and a BR.20 in Japanese colours. (I simplified this to
two Ki-21s to free up an ADC slot.) I could change it back and
introduce the BR.20 to the ADC list in place of the He 112.
So we should probably get some guys to test O26 early in the
testing and see if it's viable before making a call.

From a first look, Forgotten Planes actually looks promising.
Fairly even forces with some assymetry, an interesting game end
mechanism, and the reward for killing experten makes it
worthwile for the side with the disadvantage to kkep trying for
a lucky shot.
