I've updated the Origins extension to DRAFT-06. I didn't mean to
make any changes that would affect your games in progress using
DRAFT-05 but I did. By the time I realized it, it was too late
to revert. The good news is, DRAFT-06 should not affect any
games in progress UNLESS you were using a D.XXII counter. Please
accept my apology for disrupting your game if so. I moved the
DRAFT-05 version to the Archives folder if you need it. Or if
you recall where your D.XXII units were, you could replace the
D.XXII counters on your map using the DRAFT-06 version.

Hey Al,
I did notice a few things so far in the newest version 4.00
module:
1) you still have the old Gun Pod markers that incorrectly show
+1 FP. Or rather, you don't have the new 2nd edition Gun and AT
Pods (updated values and they are grey in color). Are we going
to totally remove the "old" markers from the module to keep from
confusing players on which they should use? Or should we keep
the old versions available to players?
2) The Rockets marker does not flip to show the "Rockets
depleted" side (unlike bomb loads, the rocket marker stays on
wing display causing reduced speed/turn values).
3) What about the GCI marker? The counter-sheet from Victories
2nd Edition has this as a Grey marker. Not sure where the Red
GCI marker came from.
4) Also now that 2nd Edition Victories has ammo markers that are
the same as Supremacy, can we not just get rid of the old 1st
Edition ammo markers to clean things up a bit?
5) Should all the new paint schemes be in now? Haven't checked
all of them yet, but looks like Swordfish flights only have 2
schemes for the right facing and only 1 for left facing (should
be 3 schemes total).
6) Not HUGE deal but noticed that the 2nd Ed Victories pieces
are a separate extension (not in main module). However it looks
like the new Hurricane flights from several expansion all got
included in the main module. Would it not be better to have all
2nd edition victories content in the main module?
7) Would be nice to add a "hide pieces" button to all campaign
maps especially for easily looking at information below sortie
tracks. Just find myself always having to move pieces off tracks
to see underneath.
8) Would also be nice if target markers could be "stackable"
with other target markers with the ability to hover over them
with mouse. Lots of info on those targets and lots of scenarios
will place multiple targets in one square.
9) Why are the two paint schemes for Me 163 flights (eagles
extension) appearing as separate counters in the Counters tab.
Would make sense to have 1 counter displayed in Counters tab.
10) Hs 129 (eagles extension) only has 1 paint scheme repeated
twice for the right facing squadron and only 1 paint scheme for
the left facing. Missing the actual 2nd paint scheme altogether.
This may be an issue with multiples and I haven't combed through
any further.
11) Reverse side of Japanese Air Reinforce (Rabaul campaign
marker) should have a "Reinforce if CVP >4 or 1+ Nov" side.
Well that's just a brief overview of what I've found so far.
Hope to be able to spend more time soon combing through more
closely.
Thanks for all the great work Al!!! You make this playtesting
process SO MUCH EASIER with your fine module work. Keep up the
great work!!!!
Pete

This is all great feedback Pete. Thanks! I’ll look into each one
and post here with my findings. I really appreciate your time.

Again, thanks Pete. Here's my take...
Hey Al,
I did notice a few things so far in the newest version 4.00
[color=black]You're right. Completely overlooked them. I will
include the V2e markers in the core module. I'll create a legacy
counter tray for old pieces such as these. I'll make sure that
they're identified as legacy so players shouldn't get confused.
I'm thinking to keep the legacy counters in the module for that
1% that purchased the original Victories. Lee makes a point to
say the original Victories is completely playable so I think I
should keep the original pieces available.
2) The Rockets marker does not flip to show the "Rockets
depleted" side (unlike bomb loads, the rocket marker stays on
wing display causing reduced speed/turn values).
Very good point. I'll fix this.
3) What about the GCI marker? The counter-sheet from Victories
2nd Edition has this as a Grey marker. Not sure where the Red
GCI marker came from.
I'll include both. So players may prefer one or the other. The
red marker is included in Eagles.
4) Also now that 2nd Edition Victories has ammo markers that are
the same as Supremacy, can we not just get rid of the old 1st
Edition ammo markers to clean things up a bit?
I'll send them packing to the legacy counter tray.
5) Should all the new paint schemes be in now? Haven't checked
all of them yet, but looks like Swordfish flights only have 2
schemes for the right facing and only 1 for left facing (should
be 3 schemes total).
Well, yes, but then your feedback made me realize I'm still
using placeholder art for the V2e extension!!! Man getting old
isn't all it's hyped up to be. I'll do a piece by piece review
and fix this oversight on my part.
6) Not HUGE deal but noticed that the 2nd Ed Victories pieces
are a separate extension (not in main module). However it looks
like the new Hurricane flights from several expansion all got
included in the main module. Would it not be better to have all
2nd edition victories content in the main module?
It does make perfect sense. The reason I didn't is because it
saves me time. To do so involves a lot of cut and pasting
between the buildfiles and then correcting the "replace with"
associations. I figure since the extension is so easy to load,
this is acceptable. It also keeps the core module size down just
a bit. The Hurricane you mention is a special case. It's
addition to the countermix was expressly to make more of that
type available. Since this could increase the allowed splits or
what not, I add pieces like these to the core module doing the
cut and paste method I mention.
7) Would be nice to add a "hide pieces" button to all campaign
maps especially for easily looking at information below sortie
tracks. Just find myself always having to move pieces off tracks
to see underneath.
Great point. I'll add this.
8) Would also be nice if target markers could be "stackable"
with other target markers with the ability to hover over them
with mouse. Lots of info on those targets and lots of scenarios
will place multiple targets in one square.
Makes sense. This will make them interact with the aircraft
pieces which is why I demoted them to their own level in the
first place. But doing so gives up the feature you mention. I'll
play around with this. I do like your suggestion.
9) Why are the two paint schemes for Me 163 flights (eagles
extension) appearing as separate counters in the Counters tab.
Would make sense to have 1 counter displayed in Counters tab.
Because the game is so visually appealing, I like clicking
through the counter tray and seeing as much art as possible. I
also do this to easily show players the different art added to
the originals; the Hurricane you mention above is an example.
There's no operational reason other than this. I do try to keep
the number of pieces visible to a max of 4 rows.
10) Hs 129 (eagles extension) only has 1 paint scheme repeated
twice for the right facing squadron and only 1 paint scheme for
the left facing. Missing the actual 2nd paint scheme altogether.
This may be an issue with multiples and I haven't combed through
any further.
I missed this. Good catch. I'll fix it.
11) Reverse side of Japanese Air Reinforce (Rabaul campaign
marker) should have a "Reinforce if CVP >4 or 1+ Nov" side.
I missed this too. Sheez, that getting older thing again.
Well that's just a brief overview of what I've found so far.
Hope to be able to spend more time soon combing through more
closely.
Outstanding job. Much appreciated. If you do find other stuff,
I'll take it.
Thanks for all the great work Al!!! You make this playtesting
process SO MUCH EASIER with your fine module work. Keep up the
great work!!!!
I'm glad I can contribute. I don't play much so I like
supporting the guys that do. Lee has a group of outstanding
playtesters! And Pete, your work too is very impressive. I think
your EoP is very well done. I'm also looking forward to your
videos. You're very supportive of new guys breaking into this
fine game series. I'd welcome a game myself at some point.

I've added a layer test module to the VASSAL folder. It
separates counters into three layers; from top to bottom:
Aircraft, Targets, Environment
You can hide Aircraft, Targets, or all three.
Mess around with the interactions of these layers and see what
you think. The module also incorporates the fixes Pete pointed
out.
There are no extensions associated with this test module.

Oh nice! So much nicer already with those targets able to stack.
And with aircraft at different layer, no worries about
accidentally flying off with that flak in tow lol.
Suggestion though, could we make the Hits marker on same layer
with targets so we could essentially stack the hits marker on
top of applicable target? Same with bomb load markers (i guess
an of the ordinance markers). Would be nice to be able to
differentiate which bomb loads are "targeting" which target by
stacking them on top. Perhaps the Bombing and defender modifier
markers too.
Great work Al!

Not sure how up to date I am to expect the playtest counters to
be, but there seems to be no Nationalist Ju52 squadron in the
module currently.

New Layers Test module posted.
Hits marker level changed to target layer.
I made the change to the stores counter. It will now stack with
the targets. When I did this, it affected the way things stacked
on the wing displays. So I made some updates to them as well.
I added the ability to hide pieces on the wing display. And I
added a place for acft type on the ID markers.
A possible format of the Wing Display:
[attachimg=1]
Same wing display with Hide Markers selected:
[attachimg=2]
And finally, with all pieces hidden:
[attachimg=3]
I'd like the ON/OFF feature of the hide all button to work with
the Hide Markers button but VASSAL isn't programmed that way.
I've got a request in for some help to work around this.
Mess around with it and let me know what else. Thanks.
Al

Just uploaded an Origins extension update that does. Still DRAFT
v06. Should not affect any games in progress.

The bombing -1/-2 stack with the aircraft. The defence 0/-1/-2
stack with the targets.
That work?
