I really don't want to widen the group for this just yet until
at least a first round of testing has been done. It's entirely
possible the game will change radically in the coming months.

Sorry to be so frustrating at the moment. I know I'm dangling a
shiny bauble out in front of everyone but only showing to a
select group.
One of the reasons why I'm so guarded is that I don't yet know
if there's a there, there. I need to get some early plays under
my belt to assess if there's a game here at all. The game might
change radically, and one of the reasons for keeping the group
small is that I can't handle a mass of feedback from a larger
group, particularly for something that might change radically.
Also I want to keep a group of people insulated from the design
so that when I do open it up to the rest of you here, you come
'fresh' to it.
So I'm sorry. You'll have to remain tantalised for a while as I
sort this stuff out.

It’s no problem at all.
I’m playtesting for another game currently but it’s a bit
amateur hour compared to what I am used to here.
Will keep checking for updates. If it’s a month from now or a
year I’ll keep checking in.

I was chatting with Karl last night and one of the things I said
to him was how I've slowed down a lot since the heart operation.
This is not a coincidence, I suspect. So I'm taking the dev work
easier this time - I'm not in a rush.

I'm reasonably well set-up for tomorrow's first solo playtest.
The benefits of having so many freebie copies of Wing Leader is
that I can steal and deface aircraft counters.
(Which is an interesting point, Gordon and Andrew. If you need a
spare copy of Wing Leader to deface for your FTF tests, just
shout and I'll mail one to you.)

Just pushing counters for the first time and it's clear a whole
raft of changes will come out of this initial test. I'd hold off
assembling a test kit until I've done the next release.

First test reveals a bunch of issues:
(1) Complexity. Overall, too many fiddlesome elements. I have to
remove some of the stuff that is either confusing or hard to
remember.
(2) Initiative. The first player is in a very powerful position.
We need to be able to vary it from turn to turn.
(3) Coherence. Formations aren't breaking apart fast enough.
(4) Cards. Too many times I could not play a card. Not enough
churn.
(5) Hand size. I might need to increase hand size a fraction -
perhaps 11 to 12 cards.
Lots of big changes coming.

thanks for your report.
I see there's cards in the game.
I find that quite often cards impede solo play.
Is this the case here?
